Iām at Cadwell Park on 7th July too, if youāre around?..
(although I donāt hold out much hope of keeping up with you as youāve already got the close ratio box AND forced induction!)

Just checking in brieflyā¦ Had my first go on track (Donington GP) since getting the LSD and KAAZ close ratio gearbox - and it felt good, but Iām clearly not used to it yetā¦ By the end of the afternoon, I was starting to get in a better rhythm, but itās going to be hard to un-learn my default āthatās a 3rd gear cornerā mentality, lolā¦ Car went well, stopped well and sounded good - but my heat soak pump has given up so Iāve got a new one on order, hopefully ready before Cadwell next Wednesdayā¦
Looking quick!
My ratios arenāt near as short as yours and I still feel like itās catching me out a bit, as you say - just need to reset and break habits. Iām probably a bit spoiled too as being in āthe rightā gear isnāt quite as important when youāve got a supercharger carrying you like a donkey
AWESOME Matt
Well I really have enjoyed the catch up. The gearbox in itself is a thing of absolute drama but itās at this point I should have stopped. Although a little more weight reduction wont harm anyone Your car looks brilliant, I bet it sounds epic. Keep up the good work. I fricking wish I had of known you were at Donny last week, I would have popped up. Definitely. Next time.
NA ROCKS Bro
Thanks jonnyfox - would definitely like to spend time chatting about your old S2ā¦ Iām wondering where best to try and shed a few KGs at the moment - Iām guessing lightweight alloys, lose the passenger seat for track days, maybe get a lighter roof for track too? Any other obvious targets you can think of?
Alsoā¦ should I bother going for the DDPR short intake and throttle body, or is it just a step too far?..
Iām booked for Cadwell on 7th July, Donington on 27th September and Silverstone (which Iāve never done before!) on 8th November - see if any of those fits your diary!

Iām also booked on the Silverstone day on 8th Nov.

Awesome news! Iāll probably see yours go and then start ordering my blower, lol
Donny is easy for me, look forward to it Matt. Whoās it with?
Forget the intake, youāll need a mappable ECU and itāll still be a pig to drive at low speeds after many a RR despite being epic fun.
Totally lose weight, all the obvious stuff but donāt buy shitty parts turning your lovely car into a shed. Wheels, roof (a good one), CF seats/rails, engine lid, matts and sound deadening (weirdly heavy), battery etc.
All the days Iāve booked are through circuit-days
Already have the EMU Black and donāt want to look at any other options there nowā¦ Iāll investigate lighter things and driver training as best upgrades now - ta!
Are the seats particularly heavy? (Standard ones?)
Smaller battery
Seats (remove passenger)
Floor matts
Insulation (the foam behind the bulkhead is heavy)
Stereo/speakers
Roof (no lining)
Rear hatch
Titanium exhaust
Wheels
Rear panel glass swap for carbon panel
Wheel nuts
You can go further by ripping out door cards and dash.
I used to track a BEC Westfield, some of the guys running windscreens removed the water from the washer bottle and many drilled holes in the rear light reflectors!
Matt
Best thing you can add now if youāre prepared to look at the data and get a little coaching is a Video Vboxā¦
There will be more time in you than there is in the car and itāll be a cheaper route to lower lap time. Youāve done the key bits to make the car faster, anything else now is going to find you tenths unless you add a shitload more power or Bosch M5 ABS.
VBox Lite or Vbox HD with an OLED Predictive lap time display are the way to go. If you want to come over Iām happy to lend you one to try before you buy.

Thanks Stephen! Thatās incredibly kind - and I might take you up on it after a bit of coachingā¦ I had a dayās tuition booked at Donington before the world went wrong, so Iāll get that rearranged first - I suspect as you say, that the main issue with the car at the moment is my skill level - and hopefully I can sort that out a bit soon

Holy Moly!!! Thatās some dedication!

Totally agree with Stephen. You should most definitely have him install it then do a track day or two. You will enjoy using the software, itās user friendly and the predictive lap timer will definitely help on the day.
I already have the AIM dash, which does splits and lap timing - is this significantly different?
Also, already done radio and speaker delete, AC delete, engine bay trim delete, roof lining removal, Odyssey battery - but think thereās definite mileage in removing the carpets, passenger seat, bulkhead sound deadening and boot carpet for track days?
Thanks guys - Iāll give you an update on what I remove and how much it weighs!
AiM is awful, really great HD camera tho. Software and on track info is in a different league what Stephen is offering. Having said that I think the AIM V3 which my mate uses is better but not as good still.
CF seats and aluminium rails 10kg. Carpets and deading 5 kgs.
Lol remove passenger seat, that always makes me laugh, will it make all the difference on the day, NO Youāll need a passenger seat to properly learn.
Looking back, I wish I could have ragged my S2 like I rag my R300, itās all in the learning Matt.
Give or take depending on the driver even if you were able to remove 50kgs from the car this will equate to circa 0.4 - 0.6s per lap at Donington Park, a little more at Silverstone although itās not proportionate to the circuit length due to the undulation effect at Donington.
If a good instructor using a Vbox cannot find at least one second on a full days coaching from an amateur driver then they either arenāt a good instructor or the amateur is already very good. i.e. coaching up to your own personal limit is typically cheaper than weight loss.
When we build Elise, Exige & 2-Eleven race cars we were using lightweight clams, 4kg bag tanks, fuel for qualifying would be weighed in, excess drained out via an MSA Approved fuel drain etc. In the 2-Elevens we had ābagā seat when allowed that were 2kgsā¦ etc etc. Thatās all a bit excessive for track days and I wouldnāt create a load of work for your self until you are at the point that you can get no more from yourself.
Stephen
Then I shall resolve to try to restrain myself from messing further and just go have some fun!
Cadwell Park yesterday! It was sunny one minute and then a bit of rain the next - so many red flags! Managed to turn in a few respectable laps despite being on my āwetā tyresā¦ (AD08RS) Think I might swap them for some A052s very soonā¦ Had great fun and Cadwell seemed to suit the gearbox much better than at Donny, but I guess that could be because Iāve not been to Cadwell very much compared to Donny, so my āthatās a 3rd gear cornerā mentality isnāt as strong at this circuit?
Definitely need to invest in some tuition as my next upgradeā¦
so my āthatās a 3rd gear cornerā mentality isnāt as strong at this circuit?
Yep I certainly think Iām struggling with that mentality. I was banging into the limiter like a nutter at Croft Saying that, I partly blame my shift lights, Iāve made some config changes on my dash to give me a bit more of a heads up.
I love Cadwell, mixed conditions there can be treacherous though.
Iād like to do a trackday on my AD08RS, I feel like in terms of learning the car they could do me a big favour - assuming the ZZRās have higher ultimate grip but a more sudden drop-off. Iāve never tracked a Lotus on anything other than ZZR, so my learning curve has probably missed a vital step. Iām with you on tuition too, Iām hoping to line something up this year and Iām also considering the Lotus Academy programme perhaps over winter to keep me distracted/skinted enough to avoid pulling the car apart again.
