S1 REGISTRAR'S SURVEY READY

Is there a standard for pics as far as angle (front, rear, front 3/4??), aspect ratio etc. The finished product will look better if there is a standard.

Also a thinly veiled reason to post a pic of my car after I cleaned it yesterday

Hi there. Have sent some info. Have bought the Edinburgh S1 on PistonHeads. Sorry to participate in the migration of S1 out of UK, but we don’t have a lot of them around here.

No, JJ’s car was in Glasgow, mine is the black striped one

It was the third seen, having assessed the alu coloured Bradford one (which is no more on PH) and the yellow Scunthorpe one (which has reappeared on PH by a professional seller with a 2 K increase).

Sorry to have been quiet on this but a busy workload, my daughters’s wedding and a recent attendance under the surgeoans knife have left me with little time, no money and an eight inch abdominal scar respectively…

To answer the basic question, 67 people have started the survey but only 47 have completed it - this will make analysing the results so far quite difficult as there may be recording errors in uncompleted surveys. Whilst this is disappointing, it isn’t actually a bad effort to catch about 10% of all the cars out there at the first pass, so thank you all those of you who have responded. Even so, the best possible page count for Jez’s proposed book will be 67…

I now intend to send, by email, a more detailed survey to those that have already responded and given me an email address. This will improve accuracy and enable me to properly record the data in both hard and soft copy.

As to what will be done with the information… Initially nothing I suspect, but in years to come it will become more and more important - my original explanations for wanting to collect and record the data still stand. The main interest is in the cars and not the owners, although in due course a famous previous owner may be significant. Information (about the cars only) will only be released to those with a genuine need to know and will NOT be used for commercial gain. In years to come, questions such as was chassis XXXX ever raced may be easy to answer if we collect the data now. Everyone who owns an S1 should have an interst in maintaining the history and exclusivity of the model and knowing the history of each chassis will ensure that everybody benefits in the long term. Just one little example - let’s say that a car is curently being raced and is not road registered. In years to come a future owner may want to restore it and claim the original number from DVLA or similar national body. The register will provide evidence of early history and enable that owner to get the car back to original condition/status. I have no intention of being a ‘little DVLA’ and recording every detail of every owner but in due course it would be extemely helpful to have a brief history of each car.

All I can say is, give it a chance to work and 5 years down the line we’ll know whether it wasa worth it.

I still think is a very worthwhile exercise and look forward to hearing of more owners signing up. Many thanks Mike for continuing to pursue it.

Well, I’m totally pro-survey. Ok, my opinion might be biaised, cos’ I’m dealing with 30+ years cars which are more costly than Exiges. My point is as follows : in 5 or 10 years time, people buying cars will like to know a little bit more about their (future) pride and joy : is it an original car, was it transformed etc… Not mentionning cars rebuilt with several “donors” (I know it’s unlikely to be done now, but wait 10 years…). Also on an insurance point of view : if you crash your Exige in a few years, what will impede insurances to declare it obsolete and of no value ? I sincerely think a list should be published with minimal details (certainly not the address of the owners). Also, after 8 years, I’m feeling the cars will have now shorter-terms owners, beeing less fortunate people - but hopefully also real amateurs. It should be wise to investigate cars on PH (for instance) and collect a minimal of infos. Sellers are always keen to give away those details.

finally got round to registering but im either thick or senile, my chassis no starts sccga117 but survey states 111 anyone able to shed some light?
