S1 on pistonheads

So this is the one that was advertised privately for 29K. Knight Garage are now selling it for 36K with a service and respray.

Does anyone know how much a respray might cost?

I doubt the garage paid £29k. The paint refresh on my car including labour to remove, prep, paint and refit all the panels was I think £3k.

Yep 3.

I was thinking they probably paid 25???

Is 3K for a windows out respray?

I mean glass out respray

Wouldn’t have thought you’d need to. Just remove the seals and wind it down. Tbh I wouldnt want the internals of my doors messed around with having messed around with a few myself. Mirrors off maybe, but that’s a PITA also.

Guess I meant the windscreen

Windscreens don’t come out of an Exige like other cars they are bonded in practically structural. it’s a very serious job. Also In terms of painting it would provide no benefit, the screen doesn’t touch any areas that are body coloured the surround is black. All the panels unbolt and the main parts of the car are two single large clams. An Elise/exige isn’t like a regular car in terms of having metal window frames and glass to pop out of rubbers or similar, it’s a very different exercise.

Look at jonnyfox’s refresh thread for his car to get an impression of the components, a man that knows his way around an exige right now!!

Thank you guys

It’s here

Bought mine for £23k 52k miles. Still needs a respray but obviously I’ve removed the panels myself and will prep for spraying. Having researched S1’s quite a bit now it’s the everything else that’s of interest not just the milage…

Yep I’d agree, MS seats, harnesses, 190bhp etc etc, box ticking

Thanks Jonny,

When did you buy yours?

I can see now that the windscreen is immaterial.

Last March, 2014.

The yellow one in Oxfordshire is pretty much the same as mine, yellow, 190, MS Seats, aircon (non functioning). 25k miles and fully history, I am owner three. I have nitrons and an Emerald Ecu fitted but have the originals in a box.

I would never get mine resprayed, it has a few chips, some stars in the fibreglass and some rash in the wheel arches. That all just shows it is a genuine car with a patina of age. I think the best cars are original and used. Though 25k in 15 years is hardly used.

The best classics are always the most original. Therefore, if I am correct, my car is worth 40k. Not for for sale, until I cannot get in and out and take for a gentle canter on the road or around Donington.

The is amazing for owners. I just collected mine yesterday being the 3rd owner now. 19500 miles azure blue 190 with emerald. Are these cars really a £35k-£40k car? Im glad I got mine whilst I did. Awesome.

Not really. I expect I would struggle to get more than 25-27k as a private sale. Dealer may get much more because of a warranty (which private sellers can get as well) and the security around money transfer etc. The big prices do show a trend and everyone which gets exported, crashed or converted keeps the pressure onwards and upwards.

In the end, it is a car, it is to be driven.

I dunno Keith, if you ask me nows the time buddy, what’s not on the up? And currently it’s a shallow curve…

Going from an S2, you having an S2 which car is better to drive, which car is the purer of the two…

Exiges are selling +£30k now. To Jonnys point everything is moving up they are just in that curve.

Which car is the better to drive…S1, it is slower but just feels right and I like the unassisted brakes and feel. I cannot say I like long journeys in either but the S2 is preffered as it is quieter, more comfortable and has 6 gear cruising, on that subject, the gearbox is miles better in an s1.

If I got 27k for my S1 i would be happy as it is a lot more than I paid for it, (21 I think) and I have had enjoyment and use from it. I think I would struggle to get 30k+ as a private seller but as I have no intention of selling it is not an issue. I have promised to give it to my son (14) but he has rejected it as it does not say Por***e on the badge, no taste the youth of today.

Lol he’ll come round

I reckon 30k is the starting point on both your cars now. Mines the anomaly here, it’ll need to be PERFECT to really benefit short term. Long term who knows but I can’t see it going anytime soon.
