Thanks Rob.
[quote=lotusgray]I’ve had interest from someone in Australia. But have asked what the import duty would be on an Exige, any ideas?

I suspect that Australia is not under New Zealand rule…yet
Its very simple - you cannot “normally” import an S1 Exige into OZ, it doesnt meet the regulations - so if you tried it would get messy and either you loose it or you have to send it back.
The only way to get it in is via a “personal Import” for which there is a stack of paperwork. To do it this way:-
-
You must have owned AND used the car in UK for a minimum of 12 months before you apply for the personal import paperwork.
Dont think that is a simple matter, you have to use paperwork to endorse that fact, so Insurance certs, service bills etc. -
Also you must have lived in the country the car has been used in for one year - and endorse that fact - Utility bills etc
-
You also can ONLY do this if you have a Australian residency visa, citizenship or as I do a “457” temporary resident visa. No other visa etc would work - so you cant just apply as a UK citizen and sit in a hotel waiting for it to turn up
You then send off for a certificate to allow you to import - and like in my case you could get rejected and have to apply again with more evidence. Its not at all a done deal that you get the certificate.
So in this case there is no chance the guy could import it.
My car is still in UK, due to a load of factors … all except one now resolved … so once my 4 month wait for a new visa is processed its leaving on the boat !!
Thanks for the detailed reply Andy. I guess this one will be staying over here then

Not true.
You can import an S1 Exige into Australia through the SEVS and RAWS scheme. There is only one workshop in Australia that can comply the Elise/Exige and that is Simply Sports Cars in Sydney. They can do all the importing, quarantine and customs clearance plus comply the vehicle. The total cost is dependent on the value of the car as it will be hit with GST and LCT (luxury car tax - and yes I know “luxury” and “Exige” are polar opposites but it is a value not quality tax).
The personal import scheme is much easier though but does require that you own and use the car overseas for at least twelve months (and have records to prove that).

Yes - and he has already done at least one. He can do any Elise or Exige up to 2005 or 2006.
I’ve used Simply Sports Cars, very helpful indeed
I know the owner of the company that made the exige s1 carbon clams i do know that they exported a lot to Australia and New Zealand

Certificate of Conformity has arrived from Lotus.

They look like Rays GramLights to me.
The wheels? I’d be interested in knowing specs/prices on those wheels if they’re available.
I think he meant the clams George.
That CF “Exige” has Pilbeam suspension - so I guess the PCD maybe somewhat more forgiving for different wheels.
