Whilst deep cleaning in the ‘engine room’, I noted, having pulled out the sound baffled foam from on top of the aluminium storage tray area behind the air box, that this appears to be attached to a thin mild steel plate running across the full width of the boot!
Horrors of, but it is RUSTY!
Any history in any threads of this… as this needs to be replaced!!! (YUK!)
I removed mine on Saturday and it was definately aluminium under there - in fact, it was damp and filthy but it cleaned up a treat.
Yes, my Ali tray cleaned up super too… but then have a good look up and behind to the rear left and right sides of the aluminium tray … it seems to be attached to another metal support… and this is where the ‘rust’ is…
I am going to have another look later and perhaps post a photo… I hope I am seeing things though!
Thats not rusty metal matey, its not even metal, its a kind of fibreboard heat shield that goes between the exhaust and the boot floor. It is fixed to the boot floor. The other side of it has a kind of stick on silver reflective covering.
While we are on the subject. Is there an alternative to the standard lotus exhaust heat shieding? Mine looks ok from above but while looking from the bottom it is sort of flaking off and since I am restoring I would like to change it with something better if possible.
