Rockingham Tues 30th April (BookaTrack)

Bugger

I think you may need to “share with the group”…

Do share Tim - can’t be that bad can it?

Oh no Tim… what happened?

An understatement I suspect :frowning:

I’d spun at gracelands with the badger chasing me down, and in doing so stalled with it unable to restart. After a min of trying we put arms up for recovery and the reds come out. This next bit is best explained by a video…

https://vimeo.com/65210729

looking back at the video he passed me stopped, did a lap then belted me 2nd pass around.

Steve Williams on his way to recuse the car that rockingham kindly stored for me.

Oh my god… what a feckin idiot !! - who the hell did that ?

I would be seriously, seriously pissed off and quite liable to inflict bodily damage on whoever hit you unless they had some remarkable excuse?

How bad is the damage ? rear left quarter ? Subframe ok?

So sorry to hear mate :frowning:

Jesus Tim, gutted for you mate. What a complete knob!!! What did he have to say for himself afterwards?

Hope the car isn’t too bad!

We heard the bang all the way from the garages. Glad you both got out ok. Chinese whispers and all that but later on we heard that although you were stranded on track for a good 2-3 mins the red flags weren’t being waved by the Marshalls, apparently Red Flag was going across the radios but none of the Marshalls acted on it! That guy had driven past you once when you were sat there, I assume on the second time around he assumed you would have been recovered as there were no flags still?

If that is the case it may be worth getting Legal Advice via your insurance on whether there is a claim with the track, I know you accept risk attending a track day, but you also assume and pay for Marshalls to look after you, imo they have a duty or care which they failed. This is all assuming the ‘no flags’ report is accurate?

Blimey - sorry to learn about this Tim. What an unusual incident for sure!

Even without a red flag order, the marshalls should have automatically been waving yellow.

Good look with your enquiries into the incident, & hopefully a claim against someone else!

Strange thing is that Tim even mentions the red flag in the video - so he must have seen them waving from inside the car ?

If I am honest, I went around the track later looking for a manned marshal point that could see them and I could not find one, there certainly was marshal points that could have done but there were not manned. I firmly believe they were not seen because nobody could see them to either send out a yellow or red flag.
Somebody with in car footage could easily confirm this?

yeah fibreglass everywhere when a Ginetta hits a Lotus, was a proper boom too.

I’m reasonably calm about it all, and while there is a question mark over how fast red were out behind me it’s not going to change anything. I could expend a load of emotional energy trying to swing a finger at organisers / teams using it as test days / driver in question (let face it we both lost it in the same way + place); it’s not going to do much to help the trackday scene as a whole. Rockingham + Book-A-Track were very helpful, the former offering to store the car the latter offering a lift for it on their truck if I was headed north. Plus have access to the their crane to lift the car onto Steve’s trailer today.

Just pissed that I didn’t get to finish the day with Jamie and that I span trying to get away from Benja and failed.

Onwards an upwards.

I think Badger has in car footage, shows Muus initial spin right in front of him, then a whole lap afterwards including passing him a second time still stranded. From what I understand that whole proceeding lap showed no flags? Think the in car footage from the Ginetta that hit him shows the same? But as I said I also heard that apparently a Red Flag status was being transmitted across the radios??

As for Marshalls not having a view of this that imo is a very poor excuse. In the briefing they said that corner is the one where you are most likely to spin, due to the speed, negative camber etc. So surely a Marshall should have a good view of it at all times. I know there was a Marshall, at times at least, at the end of School Straights (I got black flagged there and the chcquered was waved there) That point would have a clear view of Gracelands where Muu span. Maybe he was off having a cheeky fag?!

The not so fun bit…

Bloody hell Tim, I’m really gutted for you mate, genuinely sorry to hear this news after all that work. Dave had it spot on, I’d be spitting teeth, the only thing stopping me going nuts is if it was a bloody minor driving the other car. Either way I’d gunning for the instructor…

I have a raft of S2 OEM parts, let me know what you need and they are yours…

shame that clam of yours sold!

 Hopefully there’s no subframe damage…

Have to say you are taking it very well, I’ve obviously not done Rockingham, but that corner looks to have good visibility all the way through from the pic above and the track layout diagram (would love to see the video of someone else going through that corner to see if the exit is visible at turn in)… if he could see the exit at turn-in there’s no excuse for him not being aware of you there and hitting you.

I guess either way it doesn’t matter… the result is the same

Just uploaded a short clip from my footage:

Idiot with an OBE from the last olympics. Tim are you not wanting to share that part?

Dave you feeling better? You should have called Jonny, he said he could have tried to sort something out.

I think Rockingham is quite challenging and interesting.

Ade, this is what a red flag from a marshall’s post looks like.

There were half a dozen slow cars passed Tim before the smack, there’s no excuse.

Cheers, Ian
