Are the rear discs worth doing anything to?
Really happy with my current set up, AP 4 pots at the front, Nitron fixed bells and Alcon rotas, standard rear discs, RC5+ all round.
Problem is, I ordered front floaters from Dave, he didn’t have any so lent me (top bloke) fixed front bells. Nitron have now produced some floaters and Dave has sent them today.
Do I buy the fixed bells, stick some alcon 288mm rotas on them and fix them to the back. Cost will prob be 1k ish.
Probably no extra braking and the balance is fine at present, look better and less rolling weight ( but I’m 100Kg so that’s b0ll0x)???
PS track use, not worried about the road
Ever thought about putting the front two pots on the back ?
As the brake ballance is fixed most 4 potters (me inc) are overbraked at teh front and underbraked at the back.
I put my old AP295’s from the front at the back. Had to get them machined down to 288 (I think).

I have been down this road, I managed to crack my standard discs on the back when used in conjunction with the AP 4 pots fronts, so I moved to the EP ally belled 290mm rears, the downside to this is the crap flexible handbrake caliper which wears everything really badly when used in anger on track, so now I have moved the old front 2 pots to the rear (I have kept the old ones for the handbrake) and the brake balance is so much better, so good in fact I struggled to get used to the new set up.
I am now considering a new option of putting 308mm rear discs on with the old front calipers when I move to spot handbrake calipers. It would be quite cheap to do as I have old front discs so I would only need ally bells and caliper spacers.
Just thought I would add, stick to the standard disc set up till you are destroying them on track
Did you have any trouble bleeding the 2 pots on the back ?
Did you bleed them yourself or did you get an Indie to do it ?
If an indie which one ?
Which brackets did you use ?
Thanks

I have had 4 pots from new so don’t have any spare.
The front discs were ruined on track, split after 6k miles.
Pleased with the new Alcons.
I’ll need to read abit more about the spot handbrake.
I assume the front 2 pots have a bigger pad area to the std rears?
Looks like i’ll stick std at present and prevent Dave from affording Xmas presents.
Pad area is quite small but the clamping force is much greater.

Not much good at fisicks but is that the same as when the Bishop said to the actress ‘It might be quite small but I’ve got a large arse to ram it in with’.

Yes had a bit to start with and learned some lessons on the way
Did it all myself, i decided it would be fun
I used brackets from a chap in Italy
hope that helps

what master cylinder you using with 4 pots and 2 pots on the rear ade ? how much did you pay for the brackets to put 2 pots on the rear and you got any contact details ?
running the standard master cylinder and the brackets were 200 I’ll PM you the Italian chaps email address, Ollie from phoenix motorsport also makes some but they are more than double the price, but his are made of billet ally so would weigh a lot less.
Is the standard master cylinder upto the job then for four pot fronts and 2 pot rears ? I’ve just acquired a set of the lotus front 4 pots and was thinking of putting the 2 pots on the back as they are now spare.
Thanks Ade, I’ve got the same brackets from the chap in Italy. Any tips on bleeding ? After about 3 hours of bleeding and 3 litres of fluid still could get rid of any bubbles.
Thanks

'enry,
Bring some of that lovely air with you for the hairpin at Folembray on Sunday.
See you in the woods?
As for bleeding there is quite a good thread on Seloc, but the only way I got rid of my air in the end was a trick showed me by an old school mechanic many years ago. I hold no responsibility over any damage to your brakes if you do this…
Release the master cylinder cap a bit, pump the brake pedal till it is as firm as you can make it, now jam the brake pedal in that position (a suitable length piece of wood works). This locks the brakes on! Leave the car overnight, as long as you have no leaks the air will work its way to the master cylinder and escape as it is under compression. Not sure why it works but it has don for me on several occasions when all else seems to have failed.
Just finished it.
There was a pocket of air behind the pistons on both sides.
Now nice and hard.
Stops well but needs some getting used to it, specially at slow speeds as easy to activate the ABS.
Thanks for yoru advice.
Track day this weekend to test it out

I really struggled to get used to it at Anglesey in the wet, the extra stopping power you get for the level of effort is quite amazing, plus it moved the position of bite on the brake pedal travel. Those 2 factors together gave me loads of trouble with heel and toe
Looks like rain at Folembray this Sunday
