quietest back box to support 300+ bhp

Just looking for views on what the quietest options are for the exhaust.

I am aiming for the quietest possible to help me with noise restrictions on track.

Greg from Hangar 111 claims to have almost the quietest option, but I’d like to hear more views from people’s experience.

Adrian has suggested 2ubular.

Right now I would describe it as raucous.

It has a manifold on it which is not going to help but anything to move it in the right direction would be useful.

Has anyone ever tested the standard SC back box on a modified car? I bet it will do the business and it is really quiet.

My standard backbox is starting to interest the noise police at Goodwood now. (96db drive by) It’s 2 y old and Chris Tullet is making me a new one.(270ish bhp presently) .The TRD intake also adds quite a lot to the noise problems.
Speak to respected box makers like Tullet and Jim.
I think you need to stress that the emphasis is noise reduction, not production!
I would wait until i post on how mine gets on.

I am going to get a 2nd box for mine made that will go on the outside across the back of the car to try to get it quiet enough, watch this space

Can’t wait too long, the car is not so pleasant to use normally so I’d like a solution asap.

Well you could put a standard box back on the car to make it quieter, mine with the 2bular 8*24 is really quiet to use on the road, just at full chat on track I break the drive by limits at Donny by about 2db :frowning:

PS I have a spare standard box you could borrow

Adam, speak to Jim at 2bular. My 8x24 has a noise cancelling chamber before the main chamber, I had no issues at Bedford although I was backing off at the noice mics. He also now offers them with a noise cancelling chamber just before the exit. With the two combined chambers, he had a car running at 84db at 3,500RPM and still at 84DB at 8,000RPM. Don’t know what the power was, but he should be able to get you under the Bedford noise limits.

This is the quietest one jim does, and it’s quite literally on my xmas list.

Muu, I’ve got one of those turning up tomorrow for the SC Honda

Neil.

I alread run one of those, with a special chambered CRP still too noisy for Donny :frowning:

Might be different on the Honda, different airbox/filter.
Should be a damn bit quieter than the 4/5" dia janspeed box that was on there haha!

Neil.

that is very disappointing

I’m going to go for one with a 200 cell cat instead of the crp. Jim tells me there is significant noise reduction to be had there. It costs a little power but what good is having extra power if they don’t let you on the track.

Fitting anything to the tailpipe gives me the hee-bees tbh. I did make up a Titanium slip-on silencer - anything to keep the weight/stresses down - but it’s not for me. As long as your supplier keeps to the 70mm bore and it’s large enough, it’ll work. What’s he using to stabilise it?

Not finalised a design yet, I do like the idea of the slip on silencer you are suggesting Jim, do you have one I can buy?

Oh cool, let me know how you get on. Decat too?

I put it on my bike!
I THINK the best way for you is a larger, chambered SDCP. Our European cousins have the same noise limits to meet and that solution worked well for one of them - mind you he didn’t have that 70mm bore. I made a 3-chambered main silencer recently and I’m definitely not going down that road - it was a nightmare.
As I say to any customer now - we know what a great-sounding exhaust note is - but you won’t be allowed on a circuit with it.

Jim

I will take a larger SDCP, I will try to ring you to arrange, as much as I love the noise mine makes, I have no issue with loosing the great sound to be able to go to Donny and not get black flagged. My idea for the 2nd silencer I will mock up and send you some pictures, if you made it out of titanium it might be light enough not to add anymore load?

I didn’t realise donny was a problem - I was there last month, but in a different car.

I love that track, so may need a solution too for my 2bular if its going to trigger the drive by.

2nd silencer that could be fitted if needed would be good.

Save me having to carry the jubilee clips, mesh and brillo pads
(that was when I had a Quicksilver before I had one of Jim’s units)
