My standard backbox is starting to interest the noise police at Goodwood now. (96db drive by) It’s 2 y old and Chris Tullet is making me a new one.(270ish bhp presently) .The TRD intake also adds quite a lot to the noise problems.
Speak to respected box makers like Tullet and Jim.
I think you need to stress that the emphasis is noise reduction, not production!
I would wait until i post on how mine gets on.
Well you could put a standard box back on the car to make it quieter, mine with the 2bular 8*24 is really quiet to use on the road, just at full chat on track I break the drive by limits at Donny by about 2db
Adam, speak to Jim at 2bular. My 8x24 has a noise cancelling chamber before the main chamber, I had no issues at Bedford although I was backing off at the noice mics. He also now offers them with a noise cancelling chamber just before the exit. With the two combined chambers, he had a car running at 84db at 3,500RPM and still at 84DB at 8,000RPM. Don’t know what the power was, but he should be able to get you under the Bedford noise limits.
I’m going to go for one with a 200 cell cat instead of the crp. Jim tells me there is significant noise reduction to be had there. It costs a little power but what good is having extra power if they don’t let you on the track.
Fitting anything to the tailpipe gives me the hee-bees tbh. I did make up a Titanium slip-on silencer - anything to keep the weight/stresses down - but it’s not for me. As long as your supplier keeps to the 70mm bore and it’s large enough, it’ll work. What’s he using to stabilise it?
I put it on my bike!
I THINK the best way for you is a larger, chambered SDCP. Our European cousins have the same noise limits to meet and that solution worked well for one of them - mind you he didn’t have that 70mm bore. I made a 3-chambered main silencer recently and I’m definitely not going down that road - it was a nightmare.
As I say to any customer now - we know what a great-sounding exhaust note is - but you won’t be allowed on a circuit with it.

Jim
I will take a larger SDCP, I will try to ring you to arrange, as much as I love the noise mine makes, I have no issue with loosing the great sound to be able to go to Donny and not get black flagged. My idea for the 2nd silencer I will mock up and send you some pictures, if you made it out of titanium it might be light enough not to add anymore load?
