PRRT stat

possible reasons for the take off are

  1. to help draining the circuit
  2. to help bleeding the circuit (if the hose ends to the bottom of the reservoir cap)
  3. to place a new sensor to operate the radiator fan

none of them does really justify a different plumbing, though

i am trying to source the o-rings for the orginal thermosat housing. i can find the two outer o-rings on elise parts but the seal which fits around the thermostat is not there to be chosen. ( as shown in the workshop manual) can anyone give me a tip where to get these parts? and ideally part numbers so i can order them somewhere. the two end seals are shown as number 17 in the elise parts piccy. i am sure all seals must be changed. I don’t see the thermostat seal offered with a replacement thermostat either…

Hi Steve,

Have you sized it up yet? Looks like it has an extra T piece compared with the old version on Carlos’ site (item “g”)? Any other differenes you can see other than the grey stat body?

David

Well spotted - item g on the original appears to be a a 90 degree elbow in the tube, but the new kit has a separate plastic 90 degree elbow. No problem there, except the plastic elbow also has an additional small takeoff pipe. I have no idea what this is for, or more importantly what to do with it!

Anyone got any ideas?

Ian - I’m giving it to Blink Motorsport to do whilst I’m playing in a Caterham at Oulton Park this weekend. Richard is going to source all the other small bits which are needed. Might need to add a bung to the kit now

hi steve, did you kit get fitted successfully? what did blink msport do to the little extra spout fitting on the plastic elbow?

cheers, mitch

the seal is Rover part PEF10010

the seal is Rover part PEF10010

thats the thermostat seal? not the two end seals?

From Dieter’s MGF website:

PEF10010 - Seal-thermostat housing
CDU3858 - O ring

fantastic, thanks a lot. better send mother down to the local rover dealership.

[quote]Picked up my PEL500150 from the Landrover dealers today. It was 40.40 plus the VAT. Although its designated as only “Hose - Radiator” it does contain the full kit:

hi steve, what did you do with the little outlet shown in the picture?? did it cause a problem with the installation?
going to start my romote installation shortly so wanted get any known hurdles out of the way.

Hi - the plan was to either block it up or replace the whole piping run from the remote thermostat housing with a Samco 90 degree elbow. I don’t know which solution was adopted as I haven’t had a chance to look at it in detail yet or speak to Blink.

Afurther solution offered was to link a pipe back to the header tank, but I thought that would entail making up some sort of manifold at the header tank to plumb the extra pipe into so I abandoned that idea.

I can say that the kit worked brilliantly - judging by the Stack temps and the fact that the fan never cut in during 12 days continental driving. An Elise 135 directly behind me saw much higher temps and was constantly cycling the fan at various times.

i completely removed the 90deg plastic part and used a 90 deg rubber pipe elbow that i cut from some of the other parts i removed from the car as preparation for the fitting of the remote setup.

so no samco part needed. i had made up two 130mm long connection pipes made up to join the lower connection to the LH sill outlet and to connect to the metal pipe above the gearbox.

the setup is super. really stable temperature, 79 deg. bit less on the move and stays there for ages in traffic before creeping up into the 80’s. and it has had quite an effect on lowering my oil temperature as well. i have not been on the track yet to see the ‘under load’ effect. but it seems to be a very positive addition to the car. and its noticably cooler inside!

i most certainly am.

the water seems to warm up faster than before the installation. and even then as it sits idling the temp gets to 79-80 deg. and stays there. for ages. when driving it sometimes drops a few degrees, to 76- 78 and upon cruising back into town sits at 79-80 deg. only after many minutes of town stop and go stuff does it slowly creep up into the low 80’s. i have not seen any more than that so far. great!

i am looking forward to see what it does on a really hot day. obviously the system will heat up and reach the fan switch on temperature if left standing, but the system seems to have a much higher capacity to control the water temp. the system temperature does not react to every driving input, be it a light thashing or sitting in traffic. the effect is as if i have fitted a higher capacity radiator which can absorb the peaks. As i have not changed anything but this remote thermostat it just shows me how poor the original setup really is…

a most recommended modification.

Can someone tell me where the pipe end’s all fit to please, except the small take-off that doesn’t appear to have a use!

What have you done in place of your old thermostat, just fit the thermostat seal?
