Some of you may recall my mate Chris who came to Anglesey in his fantastic harlequin liveried MS Elise. Well he got a bit over enthusiastic at Shelsley Walsh and the car is now not looking quite as mint as it did in April. Chris is fine and as he was quick to point out he did win his class. Anyways he reckons it will run again and I’m sure we’ll all do what we can to help him source bits to make that the case. I should get him to get a login.
That corner has caught a few out … it alsmost killed a good friend of mine in his Jordan F1 car when he tuned it upside down into the ravine a few years back
People said he drove like a tit as well but actually the supension failed …
If you walk the hill you will see that is a blind corner between two hedges so its unsighted completely …
I was in the holding paddock, waiting to do my second run, when I saw this car being brought back into the paddock on a trailer, wheels hanging off, and looking pretty bashed up. It had rained in the morning for a number of class runs, but my first run was in pouring rain, which is always a leveller.
The accident happened on the second timed run early afternoon , and the track was dry in places, and wet in others, hence the accident IMHO.

Thanks for all your comments (well most of them ) - I emerged from that without even a scratch or a bruise… it’s a very strong car. (I wouldn’t fancy doing that in a 7!)
I had a proper look at the car this evening… seems I have got off fairly lightly given the dramatic nature of the crash. The clams are badly damaged (though actually not beyond repair - we’ll see), the rear wing and pylons have been crushed, the front crash box has done its job and there is a dent in the roll hoop… but the tub seems to be almost totally unscathed (small bobbin pulled from the front cover mount), including the windscreen surround and all composite parts (sills etc) … so I’m feeling quite lucky on that score. I’ve still got to dig a little deeper but it’s looking ‘good’ (!) so far…
Tim, with reference to my driving style at Anglesey, there were actually 2 of us driving that day; myself and my partner Kate. Kate had never driven that car (full race with sequential box and tall 1st), never at Anglesey, and actually never on a track before so she was taking it quite easy - we were getting in the way I know and the problem was made worse by rubbish mirrors and no indicators (way too heavy for a hill climb car!) - apologies to you all - we won’t make that mistake again! If you were knowingly referring to my driving on that day… you may have a small point… don’t remember being that proud of my performance… (Ben was VERY diplomatic!)
Shelsley Walsh is a different kettle of fish… if you want to win or break (class) records there then you have to drive the car right on its limits in every way. I’ve driven Shelsley a few times now and that’s exactly what I was doing… but this time I over stepped and paid the price (which, at Shelsley in particular, is often VERY high!) . It’s a risk that most Hill climbers understand and knowingly take - me included.
I now plan to rebuild the car and make it every bit as good as it was (the paint job is staying!) - and I do plan to go back to Shelsley and give it another go!
Cheers,
Chris
PS - If any of you fancy taking your cars to Shelsley to give it a go - you have 30.91 to beat… should be easy with as I still have a weedy little K-series - pint of beer to the 1st who does
