I got myself a 996 Turbo for christmas. It stayed standard for a total of 2 hours. I had already bought a B&M short shift for it. Then a week later it went for a new exhaust, air filter and new ECU and map!!!

I haven’t yet actually. The weather has been that bad since I have had it I haven’t managed to give it a good clean and take a few.
If you want the best performance car pound for pound > with practicality > then it has to be an Evo, the Evo VI TM being the best of the bunch so far IMO.
No way man, if that is what you are after it has to be an Audi RS4 everytime. Looks, performance and practicality (oh, forgot to mention build quality), it cannot be beaten. You can even get away with wearing a baseball cap driving one…
Unfortunately I have just had to sell my Noggy blue B5 RS4 a couple of weeks ago to fund a new project . Illl be back though in 18mnths time with one of the new n/a V8’s…MMmmmmmm serriously nice car…

Don’t disagree there, Gav, fantastic cars.
However, some of us have don’t have bottomless wallets, & that’s where a Mitsi comes up trumps
Mmmmmmm serriously nice car…
Gorgeous cars (B7 in particular), we had the pleasure of following one down some county roads (if only very briefly) a few weeks back, it looked like it was cornering on rails, wonderfully low slung and beautifully poised, oh, and the noise, my god the noise!

Supose it depends on how you look at it…
I paid 33.5k for a 2yr old rs4 with 33k on the clock with Audi warranty upto its 5th year as part of the deal (new price 50k+)
4yrs and 60k later I received 19.5k back…So it has cost me 3.5k depreciation per year, which when you consider the performance you are getting it aint bad going… No doubt the guy who has bought it off me will be able to do another 60k over the next 4 yrs andwill probably only loose 5-6 grand…
As I say, I will do exactly the same again as soon as the new V8 Avant has been around for 18mths… Let someone take the big hit from new then bag me a bargain which will run me round for the next 3-4 yrs safe in the knowledge I will get good money back without having to watch the milage too much

I nearly sold the b5 to buy a brand new b7 but ended up buying the lotus instead, it was all due to the the fact that in 2 yrs time i would have been 20k out of pocket and be in exactly the same position I was then. So I mentally put the 20k I would have lost towards the lotus…result, lotus exige and an rs4…bargain…
I took one of the b7 saloons for an hours test drive when they first got released… fantastic car, so much more low down torque than the b5 but a little dissapointing in the exhileration department. Stepping straight back into my b5 after testing the b7 it felt soooo much more punchier as the turbos kicked in…
It’s a shame because had I of put money down on a new one I would have specd it with a special order of Abyss White piant and black optics…would look [censored] gorjus…

Excellent stuff David…
I just knew someone would have ordered one in white. LHD though Im not going to be buying that one in 18mths then…It also needs colour coded mirrors and the anthrecite (sp?) wheels - graphite colourish…
I have to admit I haven’t driven an RS4, I guess on the road they have got compliant suspension, not something the Evo VI is blessed with, they’ve also got good build quality, also can’t say that for an Evo…but I guess when I say performance car I mean something that can go round a track quickly, which I haven’t seen an RS4 or an RS6 do for more than a couple of laps without the brakes being knackered or the engine catching fire…I’ve seen RS4’s and RS6’s at Oulton and they don’t last long round the track, especially in the summer.
If I was going to go for a saloon car with good build quality then it would be an M3 CSL which seem to be dropping down to reasonable prices now. Now they do go well around the track. I’ve followed them doing 2 minute laps of Oulton on the full circuit which isn’t bad.
My mate’s got a new M5 which we are going to take to Oulton soon. Now that is a beast on the road, especially with the M (for Mad) button pressed. Will be interesting how long it lasts at full chat around a proper circuit…
I adore M5s, to me at least, the E39 has got to be the ultimate super saloon, its fast, classy and oh so cool (particularly after Mr Owen drove it in Star).
But I always felt that the E60 was a bit, big, and not distinct enough from a regular M-sport Diesel, that said, theres no denying that its a bloody awesome car, do let us know how you get on .

yeah the brakes are poor for track work, I uprated mine with the brembo 4 pot 380mm kit off the 97 gt2/3?? which sorted that problem out for good. Only other thing I did to it was to uprate the arb’s and sussies and did plenty of track days in her no bother, the wet days are the best (hey pesky)…
Never seen or heard of one on flames but plenty have popped turbos, ususally on a hot summers track day yes!!! All those cars have had heavily modified eninges though where as I alwyas kept mine standard. One of the lads I do regualr trcakdays with had his tuned to over 500bhp but to be completey honest it was no quicker off the line or through the tight stuff than mine. It was only when you got upto 100 mph+ it really got the wind under its wings and started to pul away at a rapid rate of knots. I haev some footage here of my mate putting one of the pistons out at 190mph early one sunday morning down the `Autobahn…
Yeah I fancy a csl in a funny sort of way. I know of at least 5 ex rs4’ers that have gone over to the csl, a couple of them stil have them and track them ofetn. DaveP who has just jioned exiges.com has one but is looking to sell for an Exige… Must be something to do with the fact I keep going past him on trackdays.

Pity you never saw young Tarmac Terrorist in his fully sorted (ie proper upgraded brakes!) RS4 on track - sublime
Mind you, the whippersnapper only weighs half what a normal adult does

That be the new B7 V8 n/a and not the B5 2.7tt…
Having been part of the rs online community for the last 4 yrs I have never heard of one on flames on a track day, although Im sure one will have gone up somewhere on the public road.
It is all well and good, but everyone will think you are a complete and utter tw@ in a BMW, even if you are not.
Oh and Porsche as well.
The most practical performance car ever:

Fits all the people you care about, has a hatchback for those long European weekends, sounds like a proper V8 and even has prodrive upgrades available.
And is bloody gorgeous as well.
