Mick, if you stick to the left hand drift track you will have no problem as there is nothing to hit, providing you do not take the top left hand corner at full chat. I was practicing with my S2 on there and it is very challenging to do the whole circuit without spinning. It is possible though and great fun when you get it right. Low speed also means no much wear on your brakes etc.
Thanks Russ, I’ve been round both of the drifting tracks before in various Evos, I can get round without spinning (in an Evo mind!) but last time I fell off the top corner of the left track and took the front spoiler off the Evo…not good, there’s a bit of a drop from the tarmac to the gravel. Still it would be good to see how well the Exige swaps direction when drifting, the Evo is so easy to flick from left drift to right, you can drive the entire stage with one hand.
Drifting is kind on the brakes, but it tends to be tough on the transmission as you spend so much time wheel spinning with lots of throttle.
Think I might take both cars along and see how I feel on the day.
By the way, if anyone’s interested in doing some drifting I have booked the drift tracks before for a day, or half day, and if you get about 10 cars then it works out quite good value. I’ve hired the left track for a day and taken some of the staff from work, its much better when there’s less cars as you can practice all day and not be waiting in queues. The right track is faster but can be dodgy if you loose it after the hairpin as there’s lots of trees to hit.
Guilty I’m afraid…got a White Tommi Makinen, and I use a blue Evo 6 Track car as well as the exige on most track days…who else has an Evo and Exige then?

I sold my EVO VI in 2004, not to be replaced by any performance car. Then in april of this year got the Exige as a new toy.
When I sold my 111R and was looking for another performance car I took a few months to research all of the options. I wanted handling, performance and looks, for 40K or less without scary running costs.
The thing is if you want a race car for the road that is reliable, really handles and looks great (IMO) then there is only the Exige. It is the least compromised of all of the possible cars. If you want the best performance car pound for pound with practicality then it has to be an Evo, the Evo VI TM being the best of the bunch so far IMO.
Went Drifitng on Saturday at Oulton, but it was wet all day and the mud and gravel was everywhere, it made it quite tricky as the car would understeer unless you scandinavian flicked it into the corner. So the Exige stayed in the car park and the Evo’s got muddy round the track.
Will take the exige drifting when its a bit dryer…
I’ve a IX MR, (we only got them officially starting with the VIII). Oddly enough, I picked it up because it was as close as I could find to Exige handling with four doors and a decent boot. I’d also thought it would be considerably more anonymous to drive… not nearly the attention of the Exige, but I suppose they’re still a bit of an oddity here, as the Evo draws attention as well.
Haven’t had a chance to put her on track yet, but definitely looking forward to it.

Make sure you’ve got some spare pads, then. Oh, & you may need to change the rotors afterwards too Apart from that,. you’ll have a great time, but don’t forget that even with all wheel drive & fancy diffs/yaw control, you can’t defy the laws of physics
Yep, they use pads, I think we get through a set every 3-4 track days, we use about 150 worth of fuel, and if the geometry isn’t set up right they will eat tyres. Last year at Donnington, on a very hot day, we lost 4 tyres from the the front offside, all taken off the rim in that tricky right hander over the crest. Couldn’t work out why, RC Developments reset the geometry and we’ve not lost one since. But they are great fun and a real laugh to drive sideways! But you’ll always use more consumables if you are throwing 1400 kilos about rather than 950.
