origional engine cover.

i have a spare plexi motorcover in the garage, mint condition with the painted bit in silver. I see another member is selling one on the for sale area for a handsome 800 GBP. Of course if this part gets broken or delaminates lotus will have your trousers down for a new one. I have heard they cost 1200 GBP, is this really so?

Anyway the point of my ramblings here are that I want to sell this part to buy a few more goodies for my lovely car.

is 800 realistic? Does anyone on the forum want a spare. It will never loose any value, so as an insurance for an origional car it is a good safety part to have. If anyone is interested please let me know. I will maybe ebay it but want to get a feel for its value first, and give you guys first dibbs.

dave, i posted this here in S1 topic as i am fishing for some information as to its value as much as anything right now. although if anyone has an offer PM me.

Well there’s one for sale on Ebay for 82

unfortunately there isn’t much demand for them so probably not going to get much for it

Doh! 82 quid, That is a shame. Then i doubt our man is gonna get 800 then.

Supply and demand

I’ve got a Mustard yellow one in excellent condition in anybody’s interested in making an offer

Hmm where did you get that I wonder

150

Steve, I’ll give you three guesses

Evosal, call it 200 and it’s yours.

although a nice black one is available at the right price…

not any more. i decided to modify my second engine cover at the weekend. out with the tape measure and the hole cutters and jigsaw and off i went. a bit scarey chopping the first few holes and then it was plain sailing. just got to tidy up the edges and give them an uniform surface finish. i am quite pleased really. and bazzed a few holes in the back as well while the black and decker was out.

interestingly it has made no apparent difference to the ridiculous interior cabin temps whilst on my hot evening test . but looks pretty fine.

sorry the pics are so massive.
remote thermostat this weekend.

I wonder what difference that makes to the aero?

Nothing is going to change the cabin heat at the moment!

Why are there 5 holes on the left side and six on the right?

Nice, almost looks like a motorsport cover. Hope you’ve got an S2 engine cover otherwise those plugs are going to get very wet.

oh noooo 1,2,3,4, uhhm. wait a minute… 1,2,3 no.

yeah the rain is a bit of an issue. what do mean with S2 cover? i might do a very thin deflector inside that will let run off water miss the engine. or just gaffer tape the holes up when it looks like rain!

I’ve got the engine cover from the S2 on mine. Just needs a bit of modification and it fits fine. Stops any water dropping into the plugs.

You may need to make some ducts underneath the last couple of holes (over the boot) to stop water falling into the boot space.

ok, i didn’t know they could be exchanged!

does this mean you have two wings now? bi-plane style

Do you intend to do anything to prevent delamination?

are you are taking about the clear plexi glass part or the join to the glass inner frame?

if you are refering to the clear cover, how many layers is it made of? After getting bitten by the hole cutter a few times it doesn’t appear to be worse for wear.

although i have not really looked as it didnt occur to me to do so, as i thought the clear bit is formed from one layer of material.

When I say engine cover I mean the bit that covers the actual engine (the bit with the oil cap in it ), not the engine bay lid

Clong… the penny has dropped.

I think I had better get one of those too. To clarify, that is a MK2 elise K series engine cover.?? (not engine bay cover…)
