origional engine cover.

are you are taking about the clear plexi glass part or the join to the glass inner frame?

if you are refering to the clear cover, how many layers is it made of? After getting bitten by the hole cutter a few times it doesn’t appear to be worse for wear.

although i have not really looked as it didnt occur to me to do so, as i thought the clear bit is formed from one layer of material.

AFAIK, its in three layers eg, ‘my’ car was delaminating in the showroom (brand new ) this was first evident by an apparently scored/scratched area right in the line of vision from the RVM. It then spread to the edges where the black area is bonded in the sandwich either side - this went wrinkly & creased (like folded clingfilm).

That said the83man has done something similar to you apparently without any probs, so you may be ok

Tim.

To clarify, that is a MK2 elise K series engine cover.?? (not engine bay cover…)

Yes, THIS (the bit I painted red) is it.

The part no. is LB117E0013F, and it was 11.25+vat a few years ago. It needs to be modified a bit to make it fit as the pipe work is different. Only takes a few minutes with a small saw and a file.

You’ll also need the engine lid stay. Part number is W256486T available from MFI or if you want second hand one, Brendan may have another for sale somewhere in his bedroom

Got your car back from Nick Whale Steve - dropped mine of yesterday and parked next to a very shiny yellow thing which I think was yours

Thanks for the info, of course with the MS cover you also have the problem of water on the leads. It looks a very nice mod. i shall try and source one, unless anyone has one sitting on a shelf in the garage?

Cheers Tim, now i’ve got it. there was no signs of delamination so far, but it could happen! lets hope not. what has the 83man done to his cover?

I did a search & found the thread, but the pic is no longer visible

Basically its 2 holes similar to yours, but with ‘domed’ perspex covers around the top edge to prevent water ingress.

Maybe someone could post the pic

You can see a picture of mine [image]http://static.flickr.com/69/201026855_541d3c9725.jpg[/image] HERE . There is no delamination and it is enough to help keep the engine bay cool. I had no problems at Le Mans this year queueing in 35 Degrees C - it definitely helps.

very good. thanks for the posting the pic. where did you get plexi ducts from? I have thought about making a vac form and making 12 little covers for mine. but this will need a couple of downpoursfirst or a carwash and a misfire to get the project started me thinks.

The extrators domes came from Demon Thieves see HERE

There’s lot’s more on the original thread
