Just too off my OEM intercooler in prep to fit the larger LOTUS SPORT one.
There was a very small amout of oil inside the ‘inlet’ and ‘extract’ pipes… is this normal? Where would this come from?
Back to the cold garage! (useful today! )

Hi Pete
Apparantly this is normal. Had the same conversation with John @ JSR when he took my intercooler pipes off.
Nothing to panic about !!!
Where/why did you go with the Lotus intercooler and not a Forge/MMG one ?
Thx for the info!
Because the MotorSport one is ‘Cooler’
And a shit load more money Pete!! Send it back and buy a forge one!! In stock here…
Happy New Year Dave!
Ha Ha!
I was VERY lucky to have acquired the second hand I/C from Matt on here advertised about 5 weeks ago. It was less that 1/2 the price of a new Forge and much as I would have liked one, I am required to keep the Missus ‘on side’!
(… and she believes it was in girly speak a ‘bargain’!!! )
Anyway, it’s a cool bit of kit… Just need to fit it now! Having taken the old one off earlier, the mounting holes on the LMS one are about 2-3 cm further apart as the I/C is obviously thicker, so I now need to modify or get new brackets made up so I can fit it!..
… I suppose you are now going to tell me the Forge one just bolts straight on!!!
It sure does !!!
Oh well… this will give me something else to do… and the extra cooling over the Forge will be worth it!
Yes it is a bolt on jobby with new brackets, hoses, hose clips, nuts, bolts, washers, etc etc etc. They even have an idiot fitting guide that even i can understand, so they must be very simplze
Wooooo hang on Pete,
You have removed the cooler yourself??? Steady now LOL
Thought you paid other people to get there hands dirty???

Pete - why do you think the LS I/C will be better than the Forge one or are you winding Mr Seriously Lotus up ???

Chris,
The integral surface area within the increased boundaries of the LMS cooler have been optimised to accept the tightest cooling weave and hence surface area. The internal intake is also bright white in colour (thankfully not visible to the naked eye) which ensures minimum absorbtion hence maximum cooling whilst maintaining a constant high dynamic pressure for a given intake velocity.
But given that mine is only a boggy standard 218bhp ‘S’ and yours is the 260 Cup, to help you out I would be happy to swap my LMS for your Forge (and a pair of sunglasses) when you order it from Seriously Lotus.

I may have removed it… simplz indeed! but at this rate I may need to pay someone to fit it!!! Or pay your kind self to send me a set of new FORGE brackets!
Seriously, the center to center distance between the OEM intercooler mounting holes for the brackets is 12.5 cm and the new LMS intercooler is 15.5cm. If the Forge I/C bracket centers happen also circa 15.5cm I would love to get that bracket.
Testeing on the CN’s rolling road hs shown the Forge gives more bhp than the Lotus sport one, in fact the LS one did not give much more than the stocker

Yep normal
get yourself some catchcans and these will catch the oil before it gets to the intercooler
I fitted ones from Sector 111 but sure someone here can post a UK link
Pete , don’t forget to do the roof mods too …
Scoop and letterbox improvement really makes a big difference .

Yes!!! I had a good look at this today and I cannot believe how SMALL the entire roof air intake gap is! NOT only in the letterbox area, but the entire roof!!! THIS NEEDS SORTING!!!
As for power gains from various intercoolers, I am reserved about the power gains claimed by an intercooler on a RR. NO intercooler will work properly when stationary! You must have a stream of airflow passing through to get any temperature reduction. Sitting on a RR with a cooling fan blowing at the front of the car into the rad is not the same as having airflow at 60+ mph entering the (tiny) roof scoop and down through the intercooler.
The LMS I/C I have has about 30% more surface area than the standard one, so it must be more efficient! But I do realise the FORGE is bigger yet!
BTW, do CN’s or Sincs have a dedicated fan set-up that will actually blow cold air directly into the roof scoop?
It would seem to me that without doubt the best mod would be to have proper freestream air directed into the I/C.

I did the roof mods after I’d had the Forge on for a week or so, went for a drive and could actually hear the engine note had changed it was that pronounced .
Yep! Dremmel out tomorrow!

I would of agreed but can only go off the consistant results shown from the dyno CN’s use after conversion of the 260 cars.
Cars with stock cooler show between 264-267bhp and cars with the Forge show 275-278bhp with one showing 281bhp. The only car converted with a LS IC gave 269bhp. Size wise the Forge is very similar to the Lotus sport one.
Can the intake airflow through the cooler impact performance? Ie cleaner airflow giving better performance.
Boothy
This is the LMS Cup intercooler.
The dimensions of the standard cooling matrix are:
35cm wide * 16cm tall * 8.5cm deep = 476 sqcm volume area
The LMS Cup I/C is
37cm wide * 19cm tall * 12cm deep = 843 sqcm volume area
Thats an increase of 56% cooling area.
What are the dimensions of the Forge BTW?
