Yeah, how would any tea drinking get done then!?
I do. Once wrote a system to capture them when at Ford.
You should have seen the faces in the room from the time they came up with for a clutch change on the original Mondeo, after looking at me (as if it was the capture systems fault!) they eventually got it down to about 6hrs. Engineers tend to hate cost-of-ownership requirements.
Nice to see others in line with my expectations. This is not going to be plain sailing by any stretch.
Totally agree with that.
I am curious to know why it has taken Lotus so long to âdiscoverâ this fault, and to realise a recall is the only course of action. Recalls are so very rare from Lotus, and just how many cars is this going to affect from 2004 to 2011 build dates ?
Anyone got knowledge on this.
My suspicion is that someone has been hurt in a crash after their oil line fractured, and has taken Lotus to court
Sounds as if LotusâŚhave the Yanks for this âŚjust one occurrence and law suits flyâŚdonât know if anybody was hurt though.
Would hate them to let go in the middle of Pouhon thoughâ!!!could cause a change of underwear.
Oops, I must have logged onto Seloc by mistake.
Whilst doing recall Iâm going to change few other parts,
What rad is best one to go for?
New fans that go with rad?
Silcone rad hoses worth while?
Worth changing a/c condensor as well (my air con has worked all this year so needs sorting anyways)
Tow post where do you get stainless one?
Proalloy rad
Proalloy fan kit
Your condenser will have seen better days
Yes to the toe post, maybe ebayâŚ
Sure the hoses will be fine, I wouldnât bother tbh. All the above kit was excellent on my car and worth while doing
Great thanks going to get parts ordered before book it in for recall
Haha snap.
New rad top mount fan kit, braided hoses and stainless tow mount.
Another couple of hours labour whilst the clams off
The dealer will have plenty of time whilst they await the replacement oil coolers
Which rad pro alloy 3pass 45mm? Or is it worth getting 50mm one
The other way to look at this is that all the customers are panicing about their radiators, ac condensors, heater controls, tow posts, etc and getting extra stuff done at the same time. The dealers must be over the moon with all these new customers in their area coming in, having the recall done, then adding extra work to be done that they are paying for, new contacts, possible sales, its a win win if you ask me!
Meanwhile Lotus fire the warranty claim costs back at the people who supplied the hose. And yes, I know it doesnât quite work like that. Almost though.
I am not panicking about what to change, but it is clearly an opportunity to get things done, as I will be keeping the car for a few more years yet.
There is nothing wrong with my original radiator, so does it really need to be changed, I am a great believer of âIf it aint broke, dont bugger about with itââŚalso, I am not aware of a general problem with the fans.
However I understand changing the rad would give access to other heater and a/c stuff that has never been looked at in nearly 8 years. a/c has never been much cop, and I dont think the heater flaps open / close fully
It really is much appreciated that owners who have had these things done, comment on here for the benefit of us who do not have such knowledge.
Panicing probably the wrong word, more a case of while we are almost there anyway.
If I were in your shoes, I would be inclined to weigh up the costs very carefully. Which is cheaper, dealer rates for the extra work, or your chosen specialist for all the non warranty work, bearing in mind that the clamshell has recently been off, so nothing will be seized.
Cynics amongst you will say that you also get some one else to check if the dealer has done it properly
If the car was out of any warranty, personally I would change the radiator, the tow post if corroded, paint the grills, the fans if noisey/stuck - actually remove the standard ones and fit the Proalloy top mount kit - the heater controls if you still had the early one and the AC condenser if someone had a gun to my head - chances are that its in poor condition, but the pipes normally seize after a couple of years, then you are into pipes, drier, sill pipes, etc.
What wonât surprise me, is that an enterprising dealer/technician finds a way of doing the work without taking the clamshell off after a couple of cars.
Mines in today for the recall and just had word that it needs new oil coolers as the connections failed when they tried to remove them. Lotus failed to tell the dealer this may happen so they are getting some shipped up overnight, when you book yours in ask if the dealer has some in stock just in case. If it is commonplace they may be on back order shortly so get in quickly
I said that could happen!!!
Now where are the naysayers
Theyâre busy inscribing your name on a special prize for when inevitably one of the cars takes longer than 4hoursâŚ
