Agree, amazed that they are doing a recall for this. Makes you wonder why not a recall on the radiators, with plastic end caps.
Because the DVSA have enforced them to do it, ie they are legally obligated.
If the end caps on a rad split, you get wet. If a hose pops on an oil cooler, you may loose traction and or braking and die.
I don’t think this is lotus being nice, I think this is lotus being told to be good boys and do as directed by the agency.
I contacted lotus customer service yesterday to see of mine was affected ( 06 s2 s with sport pack). 20 minutes after sending my vin I was told I was and they would send me a letter in the coming weeks.
Also gave updated there contact records with me not being the original owner.
It will be clam off job to sort this won’t it?
Would have thought they can get to it through the wheel arch
Oh right, that would save a lot of time. Was just thinking if it was a clam off job I would have put new rad, a/c condenser and stainless tow point in etc
I wonder if Motor Manufacturers are required to insure against this kind of recall risk or at least have a contingency fund.
Its the kind of unplanned expenditure that could sink a small company with proven cash-flow issues…
The upper feed/exit of the coolers and the cooler to cooler line will need the clam off.
I doubt it as that may sink an insurance company too (so the premiums would be massive), plus it’s only been in recent years that even the banks have been required to financially stress test. Isn’t that why you get owned by a large manufacturer like Proton?
I wonder if they try and reduce the risk by pushing some responsibly for the cost of fixing to the dealers.
More like squeezing the supplier of the parts that have failed. Is it an assembly fault or a part fault?
I should be asking what the problem is and what the fix is. I’ll not get a recall as mine were fitted later.
If changing now would probably go with laminova
The fault is hoses detaching from crimped ends. The repair is cut crimped ends off and fit modified ends and recrimp.
Bloody hell really, I put “mucho mucho” effort into pulling those things off to no avail!
Not had a letter yet? After my hard work to replace my failed cooler, not sure how you would get to the front cross pipe without removing the clam, fron to rear pipes are somewhat easier
So it’s defo a clam off job then ?
Yes. Clam off. If you saw how it was configured under there, you realise why.
When the clam is off whats worth changing at the same time? Parts I mentioned earlier?
Tow post for stainless. Fan relay pack. Orange indicator bulbs for those fancy jobbies off Eliseshop. Proalloy radiator or at least clean the underside of what you’ve got. Less gay sounding horn…off the top of my head.
You have a manly horn on yer head
is this where the pipes join the oil coolers? i had a triple pass fitted so i assume mine’s fine
