Oil Catch Cans

I,m no chemist ,but, alarm bells ring here …
The “thicker” oil being extracted surely leaves the “thinner” formulation behind ?

Could this mean that inadvertently , the chemical composition of your oil is being altered ?
Look at it as distillation in reverse if you like .

Oil companies and global car companies such as Toyota spend Billions on R&D .

Just looking at a substance that is extracted from a perfectly functioning motor and condemning it maybe too simplistic a view ?

Maybe time for Mr. opie oils to chime in ??

The oil coats the inside of the I/C pipes and causes insulation issues - The pipes came off my car after 2K and sure enough there was a thin layer of oil coating the inside [/quote]

Chris , oil is a very very good conductor of heat !!!
As is a smear of grease on electrical components /heatsinks…

Am i missing something or isnt oil “Black and thick” anyway???

Each to there own anyway.

I would just say to people have a look at a few race car setups and see how people are doing it. Any system on any properly built car will have a return to the sump.

I agree

Well I empty mine after a couple a trackdays (unless I forget, sorry John (JSR)) and the oil is blacker than the sump but I would not say any thicker, I will say that since fitting I don’t get any residue in my inlet pipes which is surely a good thing?

YUP, that is the whole idea

Also I always thought that crank case emissions carried moisture?
Don’t want any of that back in ya sump

*** NO NEWS FROM PRO ALLOY YET ***

I will call them tomorrow…

After 1k miles with the catch cans I now have a clean intercooler and tubes , no oil or soot at all . They weigh hardly anything and because the ones I have are inline there’s no extra piping , there’s less .
I see Lotus sport sell and fit catch cans now.

Guys,

spoke to Wayne again today but still no news! I will keep trying and hope to have an answer asap.

Cheers,

Rich

Ok Rich i am sure you will get a answer soon.

Special Offer> as said back up this post I ordered a set of cans from Sector 111 but the order did not go through. sector 111 conformed this via email. BUT they turned up yesterday! So if any one wants em for what I paid 230 I will stump up postage and you will have them for the weekend instead of waiting 3 weeks

With all the interest in this post I thought these would fly off the shelf. It’s only due to an online shopping cock up that I ended up with 2 sets!
Someone make me a sensible offer?

Fitted my sector 111 cans the other night.
I would say that they look well made and easy to fit.
Scrub that, they’re downright sexy.
I think Exige 77 could be persuaded. Come on Henry, show Scoob you’re wad.

For all of those that expressed an interest in this I am sorry to say that Pro Alloy have been less than helpful! Despite numerous phone calls they haven’t managed to provide a price for the catch cans - I have now given up :frowning:.

As an alternative, Seriously Lotus now have the Sector 111 QWK Cans in stock.

Cheers,

Rich
