P.S Sean B How much do you know, you seem to know every thing
Prepare with various Escort Cossie modifcations. Then take one Exige, pull apart, resemble with bonkers level modification and voila, you know everything.

B = Black
P = Purple
G = GreenOK, well that pisses on our bonfire.
Keep looking for the colours in question on that diagram. I am pretty sure we are on the right lines.
U = Blue
LG = Light Green
Y = Yellow
G = Green (this will be the dark green you mention)So Green Blue will = GU or UG and so on, depending which colour is more dominent on the wire.
Ok found UB BG B.
Olso found that one end of the wires only go about 8 inches until they go into anothe connector, this time white and then travel on into the bulk head but only 3 colours leave the connector…green/yellow…purpley,grey,bluey/green…blue/green.
Sorry Sean but my lovely IMAC wont support MSN!
Sean you can see this white connector in the photo directly below the black one!
Check out the resistor block connected to the interior fan swith…all the relevant colours there i think??? (top right of diagram)

OK well those three colours do corespond to the interior fan resistor wires we were talking about earlier. If you have a look at the Exiges suplement in the manual and it is wiring diagram number 15 on page 40 (Exige Interior fan circuit). Maybe this is something to do with the fact that I am pretty sure the AC wont function unless your interior fan is switched on to one of the three speeds???
Is there anyway you can e-mail me a clear copy of the AC wiring diagram, as mine is totally unclear as far as colours and stuff go.
The other thing to try here, is if everything works (AC, interior fans etc etc etc), simply unplug the connector in question and see what then doesn’t work.
Yeah it seems like we are both on the right lines with that resistor.
Sean, sorry but i dont have a scanner and to be honest you need a magnifying glass to see mine, sorry!
Bloody dodgy wiring diagrams. lol.
If everything works when it is connected (especially AC and interior fans) then disconnect the plug and see what stops.

Yeah i thought of that earlier but neither of them will come apart…i think the heat of the earlier problem has welded the black one together and i just cant open the white one!
Dodgy bloody plugs!!!
Dodgy bloody plugs!!!
And I thought my X1/9 was a b@stard to work on!!!
Heres the plan…to get some sleep, check with my local dealer tomorrow, possibly also Lotus, drive it, keep an eye on it, see if any functions dont work in the meantime and take it from there!
Thankyou very much or your help tonight, i will keep you updated!
No worries matey, anytime.
I would be careful till you have it sorted as if it starts to melt other wires or catch fire whilst your on the move you may not notice until its to late, and god forbid that happens mate.
Yes good point, thanks again Sean!
Been to my main dealer today…theyre f…ing shut, great!!!
Where do you live mate? How far are you from Birmingham?
Julian (BERTONE) lives up in the Newcastle area I think. Quite a trek from Brum, but depends how bored you are over Xmas!

Yeah im up in Newcastle, in any case ive got limited mileage on this damn thing…BUT im going to visit Jude Performance who seemingly are Lotus Specialists www.judeperformance.co.uk, any one heard of them???
I ran the car today and checked the guilty earth for heat but all seems ok, it ran no problem!
Great that it’s running now, but I’d love to know what caused that wire to burn out (as I’m sure you are!)…
Did it seem that it was nothing to do with the changing of the battery and connectors? Could it be that some other wiring was disturbed or chaffed against the chassis causing the short?
No wonder it didn’t start with something shorted to the chassis (most likely I guess), but be nice to know how it occured.
Keep us posted, but guess we won’t know until after the turkey now!
