Welcome Hans
cheeep-ass!
Is there a northern possie(manchester, Bolton area) going to Cadwell if so what time is everyone leaving and where is everyone meeting ?
Or is it every man/woman for themselves and meeting at the track ?
Pegbox
A few of us are staying here onn Tuesday 15th http://www.admiralrodney.com/
Difficult to set a departure time from NW, due to work etc, but would be good to see you there for a beer/food in the evening
Thanks for the info, I’ll see what i can sort out…
Here is a sort of a report on the day from my perspective. Thanks everyone for making it the best trackday I have ever been on.
A “last minute Larry” decision on Tuesday allowed me to attend the LoT / Nyloc day at Cadwell Park yesterday. Turned out to be the best day I have ever spent in the car. To all those lotus owners who can’t be bothered with trackdays - you are missing out on the very best opportunity to enjoy your car.
4am start, threat of rain in the afternoon. 200 miles up and driving through the gate, met up with Hans Baumhardt (who essentially is entirely to blame for getting the trackday bug to bite me) who had been sensible enough to go up the previous day. Within minutes I was putting faces to familiar online names:
Nick - eveningladies
Rob - Pesky
Paul - Pley
And too many others to count. New friends to look out for on future days.
I confess to being completely intimidated by the machinery there. Honda’s exiges, audi elises, SC hondas - exige and elise etc. Hans and I were out there with two of the least powerful cars there, though admittedly, with the suspension setup as is, I can’t imagine the handling getting much better.
First thing out and the only negative of the day, was that they positioned hude straw bales on the edge of the track at the hairpin. These were for the bikers, but for the cars, they were on the rumble strips and actually intruded onto the tarmac. Made it very, very slow round there - frankly a clam demolition waiting to happen. Everyone was cornering there at less than snail’s pace as a result. Certainly a second or two a lap lost and totally messed up entry into barn. But hey, trackdays are for fun and nobody hit the bales. Mission accomplished. :yes
Hans as usual was right on the pace - I watched him in a great tussle with Pley for a lap or so, but Cadwell is one of those circuits that (unlike Silverstone), to an extent levels the playing field by being really technical and not allowing the real hypercars to exploit their power. But I really do like the look of
the S1 exige!
The driving standards were top notch all day - everyone was courteous, tidy and looked to be enjoying what turned out to be perfect conditions all day. Speeds increased progressively all day and it was simply electrifying to sit at the pit fence listening to the whine of superchargers and the roar of hondas etc. Magic stuff. Evosal’s white 360 bhp SC honda exige is an absolute monster - I followed him through the hall bends, hairpin and barn and then on the main straight, like a camera flash, he was gone. Ludicrous!
I had great (and educational) time chatting to Pete Smith, the LoT instructor as we watched cars going through Hall bends. Hans was in sublime form through that section. Smooth, balanced and really freakily fast! Pete had singled him out independently after watching for some time. :up
For myself, for the first time I am really feeling one with the car. The setup is great - stiffer springs and ARB. I have a newfound confidence in the car on the faster corners, which has always been my nemesis. Happily, I suspect, I will never again be a mobile roadblock! I had several great sessions with Hans, alternating the lead and each drawing from areas where the other was quicker (mainly me doing the learning). Park and chris curves I think I had properly sorted (until I nearly outbraked myself into Park and Hans following used my braking point and did the same). Kept it on the black stuff all day mind you ((y) Paul Golding for the humour in this regard)
The day finished with two great sessions - one following and then leading Hans until eveningladies flew past in his 240R (fortunately weighed down with a passenger). I decided to see if I could keep up. 3 or so laps of going as hard as I could + a bit of traffic that helped me catch up and I was still (sort of) hanging on the back, but my oil was boiled by this stage and he looked like he was’t breaking a sweat and could keep it going like that all day. A wave and he was gone.

A small video for nick as promised - I will send a higher res lap if you like Nick.
Last session, several laps of following Tony Pearman’s S1 honda, swapping the lead a few times for fun. Just great stuff.
I was sad but thorougly sated when the day ended. 200miles and a beer at the crown. Life just doesn’t get any better than this.
Here are a few pictures from the day:
Email me if anyone wants the full size images, though with work commitments, this may take a while.
I had a great day too.
Perfect conditions. Great track manners from everyone.
I had some fun with lots of willing passengers (fools) all day. Had some good dices too, especially with Dave in the Blue S1 exige, and Pesky in my last run of the day (both quick fellas, it must be lack of hair thing ) .
Appologies to you Mr Pesky if I got a bit close at times, but I was trying to see if your grin was as big as mine.
All in all a cracking day
Andy
Andrew
Really good to meet you too, & a great write up of the day
Big thanks for Nick for organising the day, & all attendees for purfick trackday driving manners.
Cadwell & Oulton are now my joint favourite tracks in the UK - Soggy is so right, Cadwell is awesome!
I can only agree with the comments above. Best track day that i have been to, Cadwell is the most amazing track i have ever driven.
Great driving all day perfect disciplin by everyone envolved and a very high standard of fast smooth driving.
It was great to meet some of you guys and to put faces to the names on the Forum. I very much enjoyed my passenger laps in The White SC Honda Exige S1 it was totally awesome from inside the cockpit…THANKS !!!
A very technical circuit that took at least 2 outings to really get on the pace. A couple of blind areas that involved knowledge of where the track actually goes; however once familiar with the circuit it really shows just how good an S1 Exige is. The negative G moment on the second fast straight was mind blowing.
The whole day was a buzz from start to finish and the weather was just perfect 10 out of 10
When is the next one?
I got a few decent pics of Pegbox, can post them up later on tonight.
Cheers,
Pete.
- superb day and impeccable track manners by all - totally agree with above comments, nice write up Andrew
and me’ car behaved itself for once
Appologies to you Mr Pesky if I got a bit close at times, but I was trying to see if your grin was as big as mine.
Soggy,
No worry mate, the apologies are due from me for holding you up around the twisties, & for then not having enough petrol to enable me to follow you around & learn the proper racing lines. Twas a good few laps
PS You’re follickly challenged too!
You Nyloc guys rock! I will definitely be trying to get on some trackdays with you all again.
Thanks for a top day.

Seriously, if at all possible, get yourself up to the NYLOC monthly meet (4th Tues of each month) - Buckles Inn on A64 near York. Incredibly friendly Lotus nutters (even with us Lancashire interlopers), with anything up to 100 Loti (practically every model made to date) in the car park.
I would recommend a couple of days taking in the Yorks Dales & N. Yorks moors too
Ironically Rob, I have family in Knaresborough (actually Goldsborough, the little village just outside), so I do get up that way. I would probably take the train up and pax though - running out of miles on my heritage policy.
There really are some top folks there - most courteous and overall decent driving I have seen on any trackday.
Will take off plate if requested:
