Nitrons on Exige S

Just wondered who has done this upgrade and what spring rates you found optimum please?

Cheers, Pete.

Hello mate, replied to your PM

My girly spec are 430F and 560R which gives a great drive on the road (very good fast road) and is nice and flat  on the track but probably not as hardcore as some would like, however I find the car mush more predictable than previous hardcore Nitrons.

Hmmm I wonder if Nitron could do the more road biased valving in your dampers Andy in a set of these new 46mm dampers?

I’ll wait and see how N17VES gets on with his trip to Cornering Force.

Neil.

Spoke to Nitron today about the very subject of road valving on the high end 46mm damper kit for the toyota cars. The simple answer is yes!!! So have ordered a set for our car!!!
Happy to increase the order if anyone wants a set. send me a message and i let you have a phone number etc etc etc
Cheers
Dave

what size are the normal nitrons NTRs then?

Just what I was thinking.

Why not Ohlins mate?

Street series 38mm Normal Nitrons 40mm top stuff 46mm
Some of the Ohlins shocks have 36mm (Just like motorcycle dampers!!!)
The bigger diameter 46mm piston moves more oil for a given suspension movement so the control is much much better. Its also about as big as they can be inside the 2.25’’ springs.

I take it I cant afford the 46mm ones lol

Bit of info here
http://www.seriouslylotus.com/index.php/nitron/nitron-ntr-race-pro-1-or-3-way.html

But basically 1 way with valving to suit use is 1465 +vat so about 350.00 more than the NTR Road/ Track dampers (not streets obviously)
3 way 2470 + vat

But remember these are not low end shocks, they are top notch race dampers that can be valved for road use, so ideal for Driving gods and racers alike.

You pays yere money so to speak!!!

yup can’t afford it. this year. I am starting to think though it would be better buying a new set and flogging mine on rather than upgrade them to latest spec NTRs.

Thanks for info

Yeah fully understand!!!
They really are the next step up though so get saving those pennies. LOL

want

Thats not too bad considering they have the eibachs too. I do like the 46mm Ohlins but they are not cheap either

Ive got Nitrons 1 ways standard spec 425/550. Living in the city centre, I find the ride pretty hard on every damper setting, but I can also see why a lot of people go for such high spring rates because I still find there is a quite a bit of roll on track.

My cars going to cornering force next week to have the nitrons dynod, and then data logged on the car. The idea is to fit front and rear adjustable blade arbs to control the roll, and run maybe softer springs (probably around 325/480) with custom valving. This is not just a case of simply bolting on the arbs with nitrons the valving, springs and arbs will be specifically matched to the car to create good road and track package. A similar setup was done to a vx220 recently, and the data logging session showed that grip levels went up form 0.9g to 1.2g on track in the corners with much better road comliance (the vx started with walshy spec Nitrons). This is the magazine article that was done on the vx220 - Spitfire Blade Arb + Suspension Setup - Page 7 - Tuning & Modifications - VX220 Owners Club

Having now spoken to a couple of suspension specialists, its worth noting that the Nitron Street Series is an extremely good value damper and shouldnt be forgotten!

This is all getting very close to 46mm Ohlins money guys. And there is seriously no comparison between the two!!

It always seemed odd to me that we have relativley light cars but people run very hard springs. It was a good read, on my current car I stuck with stock suspension as my old super sport wsnt the best on the road. Maybe I just need some stronger/additional arb, oh and cash to pay for them!

Gav

Agreed Gav, some of the spring rates people run are well over the top in my opinion as well. I run softer springs on my all out race car, than a lot of people do on there road cars.

Just to add to my post above, I have no problem with Nitron or any other make of dampers, but if money is no object then dampers from a huge company with a massivly successful motorsport pedigree, loads of back up and support, many dealers all over the place etc etc, is deffo the way to go, in my opinion. Plus having driven cars with all types of dampers and setups, I know what I prefer.

Another vote for the 46mm Ohlins from me. I’m running mine with 425, 550 eibachs and they are the absolute dogs.

Very surprised at the quoted g figures for the vx above. Must have been a terrible setup before or running on crossplys.

I though a Lotus mantra was (relitively speaking) firm dampers, soft springs for the best ride/handling compromise?

Anyway, what do they know that some half wit shed builder doesn’t know better

I run very similar spring rates to Will and the difference is huge between my 1 way Nitrons and his 46mm Ohlins. on the other hand so was the price
