It did both those things when it was gassed this morning but doesn’t now.
Very good chance its lost its gas but i would speak to the engineer who gased it to check it for pressure before you do anything else
Yes, gave him a call and he couldn’t believe what I was telling him. Unfortunately he now can’t come back out to me for a couple of weeks.
I hope your luck changes soon Andy!
Thanks, at least the exhaust still sounds good!
My AC system is on its last warning. You can see why so many systems get ripped out…
Thankfully I can report some wins from today. I have now replaced the radiator hoses with the elise parts ones which have a schrader valve for bleeding instead of a screw/bolt. Bleeding the coolant this time was a real challenge, had a bad air lock somewhere which took an age to clear.
After that was sorted I went over the ac system with a uv torch but found nothing. Did some research online and went hunting. One of the spade connectors had come off, one of the two pink wires on top of the hvac unit? As soon as that was reconnected I had a working air con system again which was a big relief.
Now the work is done I’m putting the car back together. I got the rear wheel arch liner in, rear diffuser on, interior (dash end trims speakers etc) refitted, front undertray on, radiator air deflector panel on (required some dremel finesse around the new ac pipe). Just leaves repairing a little damage on the front clam under the headlight fitting and putting it back on the car.
Sounds like it could be the trinary switch that disables the compressor if it detects too much (or too little) pressure. Great result of that’s the only problem you had!
Good result alway nice to go to bed with no car issues
Relief all round! Sleep well!
Thankfully I have now finished, the clam is back on, everything works and it’s ready to drive again. Just in time for this nice cold wintery spell of weather!
I had to do some little bits of fibreglassing under the headlamp area before refitting the clam.

Didn’t worry about it being a really tidy job as its invisible when the car is assembled, just wanted to add some strength back into the area. Some filler and a spray later

My wife ventured out into the cold to help me lift the clam back on. I managed to get everything buttoned up before dinner but my garage looks like a bomb hit it now.

Great stuff, always a nice feeling when it looks like a car again.
Hopefully I’m not far off that stage!
Nice one Andy, good to see the car back together . Roll on the sunshine!
Great work!
I’ve got to look at this again this weekend, the front clam isn’t properly aligned with the hinge cover panel on the nearside. The captive nut had come loose so the bolt at this fixing was stuck in place, can’t take it out or tighten it and clearly didn’t line it up properly when I put it back on.
Also, the AC has stopped working again!
Spent some time this morning loosening off all the front clam fixings again and getting it aligned better. After that I took it out for the first drive since the start of December. All seems well, icy cold air con too so I’m happy. I thought the air con had stopped working the other day when I tried it on the drive but it seems fine now.
Nice one Andy, fingers crossed it’s all good from now on!
Great news on the AC, I did a full “face desk” on your behalf when you suggested it had died already!
I have to say I was relieved to hear and feel it working on Saturday. My working theory is when I tested it on the drive the other time the ambient temp was just too cold.
