Eyeglass defogger…?
Lol mate you need a Horlicks !
how many guesses do we get?? [/quote]
The short of it is that at one point i had the side ducts all fitted without them connected up to the shroud with the old intercooler , the open duct ends tied up untill I got the new intercooler , the ends just happened to point at the new black intercooler pipes ,I had been using a PLX Kiwi to data log IATs
, I noticed that it really did cool the in and out pipes and the IATs had gone down ,
My plan is to have a fan in the carbon plate each side , the fans will be mounted on the back side blowing the cooler air from the back of the plate and they are an inch from the pipe , the fans will act like the duct did but even when the car is stopped , I’m not sure frank knows these S -Force German fans kick out 190 m3h , a 4inch spal is about that , they are a bit noisy so I may put some spals in.
You do know that the hot air is inside the pipes right ?
Enjoy your project…
Yes , all I know is when cooler air blows on the pipes the IATs come down , i bet if i blew hot air on them they would go up ,Tbh I need some hot weather to test this core first , I had a quick run a few weeks ago and the IATs are so low compared to the standard one but it wasn’t warm enough out .
Unless you are takin temp readings from the intake manifold with an isolated themp probe so that it doesn’t heat soak from the manifold you really have no idea what your true intake temps are…
Remember you have to read the temps at a constant high rpm/load over a period of time not just some short on/off burst of speed on the road…
Get it on a dyno and hold a steady load for 2 min. and tell me if blowing on the pipes does anything…
I’ve been there done that, not tryin to bust your chops just lettin you know the R$D has been done… You may want to check out http://www.lotussport.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2648
I’m reposting the photos now…
Wow just read a bit of that thread , you and RLS/Sector111 are big mates then lol
I will get the car back on the dyno early next year and I hope to get some hard road data when it warms up here .
I’m not selling anything here ,i dont know how good/bad the RLS intercoolers are as i dont have one ,I’m not bothered if another Marston aerospace core intercooler is made for an Exige, only 2 have been made , 661 also has one , tbh they cost that much I’m not sure they would sell many anyway.
I do believe that they are the best intercoolers made for the car so far , I’m sure you know all about the Marston & Secan cores . no BS from me or smoke and mirrors frank .
I never said there was, all I was tryin to do is make you aware and point out the BS guys will use to try and sell their products that’s all… There’s nothing personal between RSL and myself, I ask questions of everyone…hell I question myself most of all…
To question is good !
What HP is your car now Frank and what do you think the total cost has been so far ?
Well with old school butt dyno, boost psi. of 37 and injector size/duty cycle [875cc/90%] A/F ratio [12/1] fuel pressure 53 psi. it’s in the 625 bhp range with proper charge temps…
Cost is hard to figure since most has been R$D…
read up on LotusSport and you’ll get the idea of what 5 yrs. gets ya…
Amazing ! Is it still a 2ZZ ,Do you develop the tuning parts to sell , is it your full time job ?
I have been looking for some better clips for the intercooler pipes , I’m not keen on the T-bolt type with the long bolt showing when tight , i ordered some Tridon constant torque ones and they came today , they look good and great quality but what I really want is some of the Wiggins clam type , was it on your car that I had seen some used ?
Pic of Tridon constant Torque clips:
It was my job a few years ago, now it’s just for fun… Sector111 still sell the supercharger [ronin/katana] kit they got from me and still refuse to pay the royalties they offered… ripoffs…
Yeah, Wiggin do work but are a pain in the butt… Not needed for low boost…
Don’t worry about the Tbolt looks as long as they hold…just put a pice of colored silicone hose on the bolt ends…
Really ! The wiggins are sold to be easy and quick one handed put on and take off , are they not that easy ?
These look good to and a lot cheaper .
Easy to take off, can be a pain to keep the inner collar lined up in order to put the snap together clamp on…They will hold all the boost you want but trust me they are a pain in the butt at times…
