Read this thread - thought about getting the polish out but opted to blast around muddy Warwickshire lanes instead. She scrubs up well enough but prefers getting down’n dirty
reached 848 miles! have been progessively taking her further into the high revs - the stage 2 sounds immense!
more things to flag for the 1k mile service:
alarm too sensitive, activated by heavy rain/wind… doesnt happen if i do the ‘double press’ trick to deactivate the interior sensor…
both windows leaking looks like they need a bit of adjustment
heater control illumination problem
intercooler residue, i think its normal for a new unit but want to be doubley sure
bad condensation on ALL light units
no DAB reception
3rd gear is bit crunchy… might be normal tightness of a new box, might not be… will see!!
Whats intercooler residue?
…i had and still have the crunchy third gear problem. Until the box is properly warm (half an hour of decent loading) it crunches if i rush the speed of the change. I can feel it on all gears to some extent but its by far the most noticeable on 3rd.
Not sure what to do really… I just take it easy till its properly warm, which is a bit of a pain coz on buisy roads where you cannot put it under a decent load, it takes forever to get up to a temp were the change is slick.
TADTS (“they all do that sir”) is a common rebuke when owning a Lotus… fortunately I owned an Exige prior to this one… so I know the difference between ‘subtleties of the marque’ and actual actionable problems. Plus, B&C are very accomodating.
They’ll always suffer to some extent as they’re not sealed units. If yours are particularly bad, there may be a problem with the seal around the outside edge, but this seems unlikely.
The seals arount the front indicators are a common problem. Mine used to mist up all the time, but they were replaced under warranty.
I don’t mean the rubber seals where they meet the body BTW. They are just cosmetic.
agreed it varies in severity, but e.g. both headlamps are practically covered by condensation fully. Will have it checked in a week @ the 1k service. I had the same indicator problem with my previous Exige - and like you, replaced under warranty.
I also have the crunch into third until the box warms up, and it makes no sense. My 05 elise did not do it, and it had the same transmission. It just feels like poor quality, and lessens the quality feel of the car. Dissapointing.
I wanted to ask what you have done about the 3rd gear problem you had. Mine was crunchy from the beginning also. Seems we have been sharing the exact same problems from day one on (heater illumination, AC control module, 3rd gear)
Glad to hear that. Mine is still crunchy …after 22k km.
The dealer told me he prefers not to open the gearbox unless something really serious occurred.
Just picked mine up and have to say that the gearbox action seems fine, with 10,300 miles on the clock.
Initial things I have noticed are the headlamps are about 80% steamed up and the boot is slightly damp (also along rear edge of roofliner), I assume from the valeting?
Just one annoyance - on the motorway (I didn’t go on there for test drive), at 70mph and above, there is a bloomin’ awful rattle/buzzing right in my right ear, which is beyond what could be termed an annoyance!
Any suggestions what it may be or I should look for? Perhaps a roof bolt overtightened or some such - any pointers would be most welcome.
Are you driving a RHD Elise/Exige?
If so, then check the plastic part next to the door window, I think it’s the one where the seat belt goes. Anyway, check around there…press against it, and check if the noise disappears. I have had the same noise…which was quite annoying to say the least.

Cheers jbs, it’s a RHD Exige S.
Anyhow, now it’s dark, it turns out my heater control lights don’t work and my foglights are only semi-circles, so it is going back in over xmas and they will have a go at sorting the squeek out then. They think it may be the roof?
This car is going to take a bit of bonding with at this rate - LOL
