NA Build....

Sounds good Jonny.

I guess your current rear clam simply shudders at the site of your dremmel these days

Lol indeed it does… John will be sorting out Mk2

When do your doors arrive. Like others have said previously would be interested to see the quality of these.

AWESOME… Steve I tend to buy nice Carbon, it’s up there with Reverie mate! And including the shipping maybe only 150 per door more than what you might buy new off the shelf from Lotus in GRP! Staggering, I’ll be buying more from TW Auto, Tony Woo was excellent to deal with… :sunglasses:

Those that have seen them, said the above ^^^^^ not me, I just love Carbon lol and cocktailed the above from what they said

They are very good…

I have a set here, they come in a matt carbon finish which will look stunning with the matt paint I’m using. I’m not even going to paint them which if I take off the cost of paint makes them work out even cheaper…

Sorry no pics as yet, will be on my build thread in the mnext week or so when they get fitted to the car.

I have seen Jonnys and they look amazing and the quality looks absolutely stunning.

Did you have little moment with my doors  OO suit you sir

Ooooo, having a moment.

Yummy

What is the weight saving per door?

I’ll know more in a few weeks Ade, need to lay my hands on an OEM shell mate.

How on earth did you find that TW Auto did Carbon doors…their website is awful ! ?

(I’m assuming it’s this one? - http://www.twauto.com.hk/ )

Here’s an estimate of the weight of an OEM panel

Jonny are you removing or milling out the door beams to reduce the weight further?

Dave I found a different site ages ago but haven’t come across it for a while. I then found this:

http://www.carbonfibergear.com/jimmy-wongs-all-raw-carbon-fiber-lotus-elise/

(did you post on here lol) and emailed to enquire about the doors about a year ago. That site is pretty poor though ey!

Wes no mate, driving to and from tracks or even on track I’d hate to get T boned! I hadn’t really given it any thought tbh…

Wow - they do look very nice indeed.

Ok so here you go, Rocky at UK Lotus Centre has lent me some doors to take apart (Top Man). Manual winders, none central locking. Glass out, beam out, winder out, locks out is my preferred order, 20 mins per door and excellent service manual info.

6.15kg’s

One for Wes 4.10kg’s

2.65kg’s (not 2.85kg’s as the scales state, the bolts were all in so I do not lose them and bubble wrap on protecting a Matt Black Wrap).

The TW Auto CF door contains all the necessary brackets (or extra strength laminated areas) as bonded to the inside of the OEM door. So there you have it 3.5kg’s per door (7kgs total).

I may as well post some images of the change over later after the doors are built up. Just need to see if I can transfer CDL for the sake of the Alarm (Insurance). I’ll post up images of the two complete doors on the scales old electric vs new manual, but for now…

1.90kgs every bolt, every washer.

Although Junks has already cleared this up I guess.

Hope you had special K for breakfast Jonny !
With skimmed milk of course…

Now youre laying it on pretty thick there Jonny Boy, the doors were not purchased (at a similar price to OEM, and I can sell mine on) for weight reduction alone. I’d hoped for about 5kg per door for the record, however 7kg’s is 7kgs and will drop the motor into the 830’s (just  lol) for now.

Door off was easyish. Had to remove the window first to get to rear beam bolts. Followed by loosening off window mechanism and door handle to unplug loom to CDL, window motor & switch as there was no connector behind the dash where the loom runs to. No need to remove clam or front quarter panel.

Not including a handle for the manual winder or switch, switch junction box, motor connector, wire loom surprise surprise at 2.05kgs vs 1.90kgs MY electric window mechanism seems to be heavier, so you can f**k that myth right off!

You talk up the idea of saving 100g here and 100g there and you still have that ridiculous TV screen bolted to your dash!!!
