Youll get there, my mate sean had his freshly built XE blow up first TD out, rebuilt and dry sumped and now it’s back, solid and rapid as hell.
Well this is it, an undetectable oil leak from the base of the dipstick found by an ex Lotus Motorsport employee in the end, an eight year old TPS and alternator is not really the fault of the engine. I also didn’t take the advice to actually fit a Ferrea valve set rated at 12k by DDPR and went with MWR instead…fool on me
Tough, mate. Hope to see you back in action soon.
block and head salvageable?
Fair enough Jonny,…car was going so well at Anglesey, you know that your formula works.
It’ll come back stronger I have no doubt…
Not “fool on me”, you’re pathfinding and you did what seemed reasonable. Push on. Sell some woodburners to cover the costs, it must be a busy time of year for you.
Can sleeve the block, need a new head… :lolno: Woodburner…kind of… - YouTube
It’s all in hand
Hi Mate,
I am not an engine guru… but for what it is worth, when a light aircraft occasionally hits a propellor on the ground, the engine is normally then stripped and sometimes a new crank, bearings and rods installed because of the torsional stresses that a sudden ‘stop’ have put on the engine. I guess your engine also ‘stopped’ quite quickly…
I would be considering all of this, given the high revving nature of the engine and the use… perhaps better to ‘start again’ with a new block and crank as well?
Anyway, good luck and hope it all goes as smoothly as your driving style!
I am pretty sure I have a complete stock head in storage at the unit JF. I’ll take a peek this week…
Great stuff , cheers
Might still have a spare head at the EA as well from my failed plans to build a new engine.
I do have one mate.
PM me for details if required.
Best of luck,
Great will do now.
I have, or we being Track Group engine builders… A plan! Well two actually…
Does one of those involve some form of “Forced Induction” LOL…
Nope
Come on then spill the beans…
We need more info
Honda V8 ??
Electric motors?
One of those electric turbo things that Audi has developed
When I saw that I just thought of Quo/Jamie and that they could go biturbo with an electric turbo and mahooosive conventional turbo
Initially maybe ITB’S or the V6 TB could possibly be converted and fitted to the OE manifold. I lose 10mm in diameter over the DDPR manifold, gain 10mm over OEM but get a more drivable car with similar power. The ITB’S not so but we reckon 250bhp. Same compression, 12.3:1 and Farrea valves, springs and retainers.
The fault has been put down to a stress fracture at the base of the stem. Maybe a resonance or bounce is to blame.
