Gonna get ya knob done Jonny??
Lucky there aren’t prices on their site! And the shop is shut to ring, I want…
I had some time to myself this weekend. Took the radiator off and removed the cowling, cut the ends off and painted it. I cleaned everywhere I could. I removed the clam centre bracket and tow hook assembly. Along with the Servo I treated, primed and painted with Hammerite.
My man Dave CNCd me an MDF splitter based on my current splitter, just a mock up for now before final cutting of the Marine Ply. A few pictures of the stays in place, well kind of in place as I cant do that until the clams back. The stays are off my wing but Ill be CNCing new pylons eventually. Luckily no need to move the horn and alarm siren. Im actually quite glad I went with removing and repainting the rusty parts now.
Before and After…ish
Good work Jonny. What thickness ply are you going to use? Err, dont use 4mm, I can tell you from empirical evidence that it rips off on the straights
You can get some nice carbon sandwich splitter material
I asked Gav the same question, 9mm is 211 although I think he uses 12mm. Lol I was there that day
ohhh cool, been looking to do a splitter myself. Going to get a mates fab shop to make up a set of metal mounts so it can take his weight (25KG lighter than me).
Mr Fox!
Looking very good dude!
Still think you should just abandon all this weight saving attempt and get an S1!
Literally just waiting on the clam and Aero-Catches to make the post mounts and the rest of the splitter similar to Gav’s. Then I’m going to dress up one of my children like a Hill-Billy in an Ohlins cap and have him stand on it

lol only there to keep you forced introduction people from being bored
oops lol!
Hill-Billy.?.?
Cheeky!
Looking good John.
I wouldnt get too hung up on being able to stand on the splitter… Just so long as it has good support all the way along its full width it should be more than good enough to hold the aero load (and the weight of the clam). Its not like your going to be loading any one single point with 50kg’s, which is realistcally all your going to generate along the entire splitter (if that?).
When i cut the final version out i used much thinner ali for the undertrays and used a lighter external plywood than what the jigs you saw me standing on were made from. I realized it just didnt need to be that robust and leaned the design down…
Cheers mate, as soon as the clam arrives I’ll know where I am. It’s all starting to come together nicely…
Keep up the good work mate. I’m always surprised at the degree of corrosion in the usual areas on these cars. I would have thought over the years additional precautions to protect the more vulnerable areas would have been considered and implemented???
I’m removing some of the rusty parts off mine and wondering what’s the best course of action. I’ve found a local(ish) plating company and was considering going this route, or the way you’ve gone using something like POR 15?
If I’d of had a few days to wait I would of bought the starter kit Tim recommended, the Hammerite kit was ok but fairly poo but I guess it’ll do the job.
Engine went for build today
Cheers Chris, almost there
In, out, in, out, shake it all about…
…Shifti, Extinguisher, top dash, lots of wiring, centre tunnel all gone, new stuff arriving soon
All in Carbon I presume!
