My "S" and the quest for more power

Hey I had to…mod the crap out of it as long as it’s for go … and then paint it a fookin cool orange…

After you supercharge the [censored] out of it…Pesky…

A better car makes you a better driver not the other way around…

That’s rubbish! Good example (keeping it Lotus based) being Neil McKean in the 2007 LOT Race Series.

Awwwwww, shucks

Date of Birth: 25 June 1981
Home Town: Scotland
Car: Elise S1 with N/A Honda Conversion (1996) Yellow with Scottish Flag
Neil, a trackday hero, has never raced anything remotely petrol powered in his life, as he wasted his younger years windsurfing for scotland and britain at international level. This however, gave him a thirst for racing and competition, and he is looking forward to moving on from trackdays and regaining that competitive edge.
Neil works in the petrol chemical industry and is basically a very brave version of Homer Simpson. In fact Neil is so brave he has earned the nickname “Neil Brave McApe”.
"Bravely bold Sir Robin, rode forth from Camelot,
He was not afraid to die, Oh Brave Sir Robin,
He was not at all afraid to be killed in nasty ways
Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin.

He was not in the least bit scared to be mashed into a pulp
Or to have his eyes gouged out and his elbows broken;
To have his kneecaps split and his body burned away
And his limbs all hacked and mangled, brave Sir Robin."

Racing Aspirations: Win class B and beat Mr Kell

Now thats cool and when I was younger I too had balls bigger than brains but I’ve had shrinkage due to age and cold water…so Ade, mod the crap out of your car because it’s only the guys too cheap to build a better car that bitch about skills…
Skills without the proper car don’t finish races or Sunday drives
I know you didn’t buy your car to race so just enjoy…

and in racing there is only one winner , second place means you’re the first losser…where’s the fun in that…

A better car makes you a better driver not the other way around…

It helps that you’re completely bonkers, Jock!

1650 including main rad

I assume this includes all hoses and pump. Where is the pump installed Adrian and what involved installing the kit as a DIY. I believe the front clam has to come off for rads?

Thanks

Correct me if I’m wrong here, but for a DIY install this would be: -

Chargecooler 1650
Gotham 265 ECU 1000
Injectors 1000 ish
TOTAL 3650

Plus induction & Exhaust/Sports Cat so

Kev

AFAIK the kit includes all items to install including pump, header tank and pipes, I have suggested to Proalloy they show all the items on the page. The front clam does need to be removed to install the rads and install the pipes in the sills.
My pump is installed next to the bulkhead by the throttle body.
I suspect your pricing for the Gotham is about right but postage costs might need to be added to get it to the US.
I think you might be a bit expensive on the cost of the injectors I think they will be about 400 for a set, plus sports cat and exhaust if required 750. I suspect it would all be about 4k plus fitting, which I think will be good value.

I this could indeed by done for 4k it is good value. I would be interested in more details on a DIY install. It can’t be that difficult.

Plans suggested injectors were 1k but this sound very high to me. There must be importers in the UK who can get these cheaper. Where are you soucing yours from Adrian. I suspect the US or direct from Japan would be the cheapest.

PS: I wonder what a 240 PP kitted car would make with a Proalloy Chargecooler?

Call Proalloy they fitted it for me, I believe they were planning on doing some instructions, from what I gather the hardest bit was installing the pipes in the sills.
The cheapest I have seen injectors was $400 on Monkeywrench racings site, but they were 440’s not 430’s so I think 400 is easily possible.
I thought exactly the same after driving Castle Lotus’s demonstrator on Saturday

Guys just get a set of 440cc and adaptor clips from http://www.rceng.com …The injectore are only $89.00 and the clips are $18.US… Hell everything is half price for you guys now…

Can’t believe I just PM you about this before I read it! which type do I need? there are so many to choose from

Ade you’ll need these Saturated Injector SL4-0440 with a set of Bosch to Denso adaptors …Call them…Pacific time…

Thanks I will get on it, can you let Charlie know I am going to get them sorted?

Frank

Saw RC & RP at the show yesterday - passed on your regards, but they seemed non-plussed Although Scuffers was around too, he hadn’t called in to say hello to them

It’s a shame that his bull shite forced me from his “blog”, but cool I can hang out with you geezers and not have to deal with the babies over there…

Charlie doesn’t speak to me.

Ade, order the dam injectors already…

Hi Adrian

I have been following your posts re power increases - could you list what you have done so far & approx cost including exhaust induction etc
I may have missed it but I guess your car must be out of warranty. My car is only 6 months old & I am thinking I cannot continue with ‘only’ 218bhp.
My previous car (Ferrari 360) was running 420bhp & I miss it !!!

Chris

Chris

My car is still in warranty for a few months but I have given up on that now
Upgrades so far
2bular 8x24" GT3 single tip exhaust with a custom panel cut out (I don’t like the panel eliminators)
2bular sports cat, Jim now does a better one than I have which I would recommend as it allows you to use his manifold later (2bular Sports Cat with flanges) Bank on the exhaust and sports cat being about 1k. Also using the larger tubed internals will help with the HP gains later (Tell Jim what you are planning)
Green panel filter using the standard airbox 50. There at present doesn’t seem to be any proof that using a CAI adds any benefit (in some cases they have produced less power).
Charge cooler system from Proalloy cost depends on if you have A/C or not but I would also recommend the alloy rad as well it will aid cooling and the Lotus ones aren’t great. 1650+vat and fitting (fitting is about 2 days labour)
So far I have made no ECU changes and the car has been dyno’d at 222 at the wheels, depending on the % loss you add on which varies between 12 and 18%. If you take a middle ground of 15% that gives around 255 at the flywheel, I am generaly more conservative and use 12% which gives 248fwhp. I hope that gives you an insight into what I have done so far and I hope there will be more to come later.

So do you need to loose air con for the chargecooler?

Nope

Hi Adrian

Thanks for the list. Did you consider either of the Komo Tec kits before going down this route ?

The 250s is about 3500 & the 280S is 4700 & looking at your list the costs & gains look similar.

Thanks again

Chris
