Gutted for you Sean, I know exactly how it feels to works your guts out and still miss the race(or in my case the whole bloody season!).

Fitted my box and had the same sort of issues, the quaife diff took a different spline to the normal box, which is fine if they tell you this before you fit it. Had to take the box out fit the std diff, only to be informed by the agents a few days later tht all is normal but you need to use xyz flange with abc tripod joint. Great help that was.

Just think how much better you will feel on the grid next year, not listening out for noises that may or may not appear, you can concentrate on going fast from the first race.

Not much has happened since the week before brands, I am still waiting for my drive shafts to arrive.

I have gone for a bit of a different tack on the gear linkage, I got hold of the whole gearlever assembly from an Audi A3 and I am going to incorporate that into the car.

The main reason is that it is designed to work with the audi gearbox, so includes a proper self centering gate and proper reverse lockout etc.

I ordered some custom length gear change cables and they arrived a day or so ago, so we are going to have a go at it tomorrow.

I will get a few more pictures up tomorrow as well.

Talking about weight, I put the clams back on today and made it back into a complete car again so I could weigh it.

So here it is…

Car complete, all fluids, but no fuel. I put my old K series shafts in, to make up for my audi ones that haven’t arrived yet.

And it weighed…

I think with all the turbo gubblins that is a great weight. Considering that my totally standard non aircon Exige weighs in at 780kg with about 10 liters of fuel…

Hope to keep it under 800 with the N/A tractor engine.

This year the car has weighed 732Kg’s give or take.

Obviously the engine ‘IS’ heavier, however weight savings we have made are the audi gearbox, which is 15Kg’s lighter than the Quaife I used with the ‘K’ and I now have a 3 piece rear clam which is saving 15Kg’s over the standard rear clam.

It could easily be lighter, as it still has things like a full size standard battery, full size audi alternator (which weighs a tonne) and standard starter. It also has a standardish flywheel and clutch setup.

But as it stands it is currently 18Kg’s UNDER weight for 2008 LOT so it isn’t worth trying to save anything else. In fact I might put a ‘wireless’ in and some air con. lol.

At the very least it will mean I can leave the passanger seat and harnesses in all the time.

That’s a great result and comes as no surprise having done a similar conversion. What about the actual weight distribution before and after, do you have any data on this ?

Yep, great stuff Sean & Wayne, you’ve done well. Beefed up driveshafts may add a few extra kilos too?
