More exhaust porn

Not sure to be honest this is only the 3rd Jim has done with this size bore, one went to the guy on here with the MMG performance charge cooler and the other went to the USA, also this has a couple of other trick bits, watch this space and we will see what we get. Does yours have the bigger fuel pump?

Still on standard fuel pump…I know, must get it changed!

Below is pic of mine to compare. The exhaust is 2 years old, now albeit Jim made me a new backbox last summer.

The difference is clear Ade’s is blue !

No really Ade’s looks longer from the second bend to the 4 in to 1 joint, still not as long as my larini manifold which has the 4 in to 1 around the third bend where your flexible joint is. Not sure if that’s a good thing or not ?

I’m never sure what is better and what isn’t, the dyno will tell in the end, I’m getting excited now (I’m like a kid with a new toy coming)…

Adrian, is the exhaust fitted?
WHat about the noise compared to your previous 2,5" exhaust? Is it now louder or not?

I’m hoping to go with a larger (3") bore. Theory being lower velocity, less noise.(maybe more boomy, but less dbs). Unfortunately the only bloke who Chris Tullet has made it for so far that I know of, got black flagged at Goodwood.

That’ll be me. Yes with this larger bore system i needed larger 550 injectors and the higher flowing fuel pump to combat running ultra lean. Jim’s larger bore exhaust adds lots of low down and mid range torque plus a few bhp across the rev range. Shame i don’t have my dyno graph or actual figures to hand…I seem to remember Sincs being shocked at the torque at approx 4.5k tho. I’d say my car feels like it has a small V6 in it now…which is a nice change from the rev hungry 4 pot.

Jim’s theory on it being quieter will be tested soon, even if it is the same volume it will be better as I won’t have a silenced decat any more. Hope to have it back Thursday night so I will report back after Oulton on Saturday.

Ade good luck on it being quieter…my system is so loud it’s ridiculous. Mine’s unsilenced decat with 7x24 GT3 back box.

I have a different design rear box Jim has done as a one off so we will see the net effect, he also has another design in mind to try later on as well. More news as it comes.

from my limited real-world research (two otherwise identical cars), the larini is loud but not easy on the ear at constant engine speeds. it does pop and bang very nicely on the over run though. the 2bular is less dramatic but much nicer sounding. i have no idea whether either gives much by way of performance - it wasn’t that kind of test - but if it was my money i’d go 2bular.

Adrian,

What about the MIL problem with the removal of the CAT?
I can see on you pics that there is a part on the 2nd O2 sensor plug.
What’s that? Did Jim installed it on the decat?
No MIL light with this???

ive gone for the larini sport and i love it, yes its loud when nailing it and yes it is loud when doing speeds of 70+ but its the best sound i have heard on a lotus… i did the same sort of research on youtube and i phoned up larini and spoke to them, it says the sport will give approx 9BHP whether it does or not i dont know but it feels amazing…

but if you have a sc and u like the whine of it then i recommend getting the uprated filter kit for it so it sucks in more air… john at JSRacing put the filter in for me and it was the best thing ever its the perfect mixture for me now sporty sound and whine of the charger going… pm me and i will try and get sound clip for you if u like

Ash you said that you installed the Larini Sport. I’m looking on the Sector 111 web site and there are a few different exhaust that have that name. Is your’s a throught the diffuser type and if so which one. They list Larini SC Sport, Larini ‘S’ Clubsport Muffler, Larini Sports Exhaust System - Sport Style? I want the type of sound that you are talking about for my 2008 240S.

its the original fit type comes out the bottom and its the larini SC sport.(just the back box) i had a 200cell sports cat fitted already,

Ade’s zoorst looks like a bloody CANNON :astonished: and wasn’t the old screamer  of last year!

The description of that exhaust is that it is good for ever day use, would you agree with that?

Also I have a K&N filter to go in the stock air box with the snorkel removed. Do you think I will hear the supercharger more with that because that is what I am shooting for? I havn’t installed the filter yet because it is a bit of work.

it all depends on what you want to deal with for normal day to day use, me personally yes i can cope but many say its loud,

I take that back i have the “club Sport” not the sport,

  1. Lotus Exige S, Larini ‘Club Sport’ System, with Oval Tip:
  • Stainless Steel ‘fast road’ use sports exhaust, from the cat back.
  • Delivers an extra +6 bhp approximately.
  • Offers vastly improved low/mid-range Torque.
  • Produces a fantastic ‘Note’ under acceleration, without suffering from drone or vibration.
  • Delivers much sharper throttle response.
  • 2.5 inch diameter pipework to aid optimal flow rates. Vital to aid the brutal power delivery of the Supercharger.
  • Features Mandrel bent pipe-work allowing a significant constant internal tube diameter, maintaining a smooth, constant gas flow.
  • Engineered for massively improved flow efficiency, using expertly engineered internal straight-through silencer pipework.
  • Accelerated gas-flow reduces engine bay operating temperatures.
  • Weight reduction of over 50% compared to OE, significantly benefiting handling and braking ability.
  • Perfectly practical for everyday use: does not suffer from excessive interior cabin vibration at cruising speeds.
  • Decibel reading = 96db from 1 metre @4500rpm at a 45 degree angle.
  • Features one 6" x 4" internally rolled Oval Tailpipe, lined with a perforated conical core, exiting further (yet tastefully) than original.
  • Constructed using aircraft grade T.304 Austenitic Stainless Steel.
  • 100% Tig welding construction.
  • Features highly polished box casings, pipework and tailpipes, offering a ‘chromium’ type finish.
  • Precision engineered for accurate fit. Requires no special procedures or undertray modifications to fit.
  1. Lotus Exige S, Larini ‘Sports’ System, with Oval Tip:
  • Similar power/torque gains to the Club Sport exhaust, albeit slightly reduced to the larger silencing volume: +5bhp
  • Similar volume/tone gains to the Club Sport exhaust, albeit slightly reduced to the larger silencing volume: Decibel reading = 94db from 1 metre @4500rpm at a 45 degree angle.
  • Features Mandrel bent 2.5 inch pipe-work allowing a significant constant internal tube diameter. Vital to aid the brutal power delivery of the Supercharger.
  • Custom ‘inverted-ribbed’ box casings help control excessive sound boom while allowing a sculpted, tuned sound.
  • Offers a more mature soundtrack than the Club Sport system.
  • Weighs 7 kilograms.
  • Decibel reading = 95db from 1 metre @4500rpm at a 45 degree angle.
  • System fits perfectly to the ‘cat’ / de-cat pipe, requiring no special produces or modifications to the car or undertray.
  • Larini Systems Lifetime Warranty.

As you can see the Sport which you are lookin at will be a better day to day exhaust to live with.

sorry for the mix up

Sorry Jonny for the new slightly quieter exhaust, I’m sure it will liven up by the time we get to Spa.
It is however interesting you say it is quieter being as I now don’t have the silenced decat, it must be the new internal design Jim had done on my new GT3 rear box.
I love the new noise though as it is a lovely deep boom now
