m.o.t.

hi just wondered if the so called trouble with the exige passing the m.o.t wil just be for the exige with the 190 upgrade, or does it also count for the standard exige?

Standard one will only JUST squeeze through.I am told that the 190 has no chance.

I’m told the TT260 conversion will pass the MoT OK [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image]

when do the first cars go under the m.o.t test?and how much would the tt260 conversion cost?

This one seams to go on and on! Surely a Lotus dealer / Lotus sport will not fail an MOT on a 177 or 192 Exige providing the Cat pipe is there! Surely this would be stupid!

As someone once posted … wait until it happens and enjoy yourself now [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]

The first Exiges will require an MOT in the latter part of 2003, so until then …

Your friendly MOT centre should pass it if you show them the cat.

at the risk of repeating myself , i have an mot man on the isle of dogs who will give you an mot without seeing your car … no names , etc etc although if you dont pay you might find yourself in the thames wearing a concrete overcoat

well if you all have over a year before the first ones go for the m.o.t then stop thinking about it and go and have some fun. And as most of you people have a few pounds tucked away under your pillow im sure you could give the man at the m.o.t centre a few notes as they are just as dodgy as half of you on here.what do you lot think of the renault v6 sport as a everyday car?

As the 190 ECU was an exchange unit, I suspect most people don’t have their 177 parts. However, I managed to keep hold of mine if anyone wants to borrow it come MOT time. [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif[/image]

Nick Adams the Lotus technical guru on the OLC board prepared a treatise on the VHPD engine some time ago and it has just been repeated - I include below an extract “The VHPD engine next appeared in the 340R. The 340R was designed as a road legal car and in order to achieve legal emissions it was fitted with a catalyst, a modified version of the Lotus V8 EMS and slightly revised camshafts with modified timing which reduced the engine output to around 177PS. The engine was also fitted with a revised exhaust manifold which boosted mid-range performance noticeably. The engine can be uprated to around 190PS by fitting a modified inlet cam pulley, the motorsports catalyst and a re-programmed V8 EMS. The car remains road legal in the UK in this guise as it will still meet MOT emissions standards… We recommend the use of an oil cooler and 82degree thermostat if the engine is uprated. If the car is only going to be used on the track a catalyst bypass pipe can be used in place of the motorsports catalyst, this is worth a couple of extra PS. There is also a race spec exhaust pipe which eliminates the need for a cat. bypass pipe. The Exige uses the same engine configuration and ECM as the 340R and can be uprated in the same manner although an Oil cooler is already fitted as standard.” This clearly says that in Lotus’s opinion if the cat is fitted it will meet MOT emissions standards. Therefore all we need do is refit the cat and we should be OK - or will we ???. Have included below a link to the whole post.I certainly intend to print off a copy as some kind of ammunition if there is a problem as I think it represents an official Lotus statement and therefore we should have been able to rely upon it before getting the upgrade done. Nice one David [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/grin.gif[/image]However, if you experience problems when it comes to MOT time, you’ll have to arrange a trip “oop North”, as we’ll be able to sort you out with an MOT pass [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image] (That is on the emissions front, not other stuff!)

PeskyIn reality waving my bit of paper in front of the MOT man who in two years time has just failed the car on emissions will be as useful as Neville Chamberlain found his bit of paper - (a little bit of history for the youngsters - of course we remember it well don’t we [image]http://www.exiges.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/wink.gif[/image])I am sure the most expediant and less stressful answer will be to adopt your approach - thanks for the offer - I’ll start applying for the passport and entry permit now but just how do you toe and heel in clogs?
