Did you pick up the message I sent to you about someone on eBay cloning your listing for this? eBay themselves were bloody useless (surprise there…not) but there is a repeat fraudster on there who has cloned multiple listings in the Motors section under various ID’s.
Most of his listings are easy to spot as they have a short plain text block in the item description, then three smallish embedded photos. He tends to clone race cars, motorbikes & tractors, in general, has zero feedback and gives the item location only as UK.
Yes thanks, it happens all the time, they seem to pick cars that have had lots of viewings when originally listed, the Austin 7 had over 10,000 when I had it listed, ebay do seem to pick up on them pretty quick and they are normally easy to spot.
You do have to be carefull though, even I got caught out last year with a cooper s I bought off pistonheads that didn’t exist, the guy was very plausible and knew all about the car, he even pointed out some bad aspects that could well have put me off like the engine is not the correct one, and he would not even take £200 less than the asking price, I found out later that at least 14 other people had sent payment or deposits !!
It was a uk bank account used (co-op) but the fraudsters live in Spain and the police know exactly who they are !
Do people approach you to sell their vehicles to you, or do you literally have a UK / Worldwide map of barns and you’re ticking them off one by one as you visit them?
There’s a house down the road from me with several vehicles rotting away in the back garden…
Linked to this thread following a mention of it elsewhere, a while old now, but surely one of the best threads ever… I really enjoyed trawling through the pictures and the finds… a great thread, cant we have an update!?
Brand new unused 1975 Raleigh Chopper, found in the basement of a toy shop that closed in the 70’s, never been ridden, unfortunately had some surface rust, still made good money though !!
