Today I changed the droplinks.
Wheel off
2 nuts with a torx anti twist per side
Refit new one
Easy as.
Except it wasnt. The bastards fought me every inch of their pathetic little metal life.
The idea is you use a 19mm to get the nut just about to the end , where it spins. You then use a swan neck , or open socket and put in the t40 torx bit to hold the center in place and then undo.
Except the torx center is already mullered. I used a t45 and smashing it in , but to no avail. It was ducked.
I undid the lower one no problems at all.
Some head scratching and swearing ensued.
Cue the angle grinder of death.
I showed it who is boss.
It showed me that covering up when grinding is always advisable
Fitting the new one was a doddle.
The other side took it to a whole new level of bastardry. I have to cut the droplink in half , then cut it right behind the ARB. Threw caution to the wind ( and H+S - googles are a search engine , right ? ) and proceeded to fit the new one.
Just taken a drive and the clunk is gone.
For how long ? I do not know. These were fitted spanking new 10 months ago.
Off on a bit of a road trip Thursday night. I might start a new thread for that.
I havent done anything to the car recently other than get it MOT’d ( clean pass )
I have been considering its replacements but the instability of work has held me off. I have also been investigating the idea of a supercharger to take the car to around 660bhp.
Recently my driving has consisted of mundane trips to places like the hairdressers ( for the kids you cheeky buggers ) , drum lessons and then to football. All of which offered a serious lack of driving thrills.
Yesterday I went over to Hull with the wife and youngest to collect a car for Wife Bond and came back. I gave my car a bit of a press on and all of a sudden you realize that 540odd bhp and 500ibft is a riot. The sounds are phonominal ( I fully expect a black flag @ Blyton next month ) and its a great car.
I often wonder if I should sell the c63 now, buy something dull and spend the difference on say a s1 exige , a ultima , or even a clio v6.
The problem is that all these would have to be at the back of the garage therefore a ballache to get out and only two seats. So ironically any car events I went to would be in the 4 seater, not the 2 seater.
Decisions, decisions.
Today the wife went out and I had nothing to do.
So I did a pre blyton mega clean.
The alloys need to come off really for a full back scrub and seal, but for now they are ok… It was also a bit too direct sunlight so I had the odd watermark
It really needs a pro to get more out of it I think

This was the last time I saw SD60 YSK.
Sad day , but onto new projects.
19 AUG 18
Summary :
Miles done : 15k in 2.5 years
Fuel used : GDP of a developing country
Tyres used : 12 ( ooooooof!)
Mods : Wheels , coilovers , manifolds , map
Costs : Not counting (!)
Issues: Rear light cluster ( fixed ) , paint microblister ( fixed - warranty )
Overall summary : license losing quick. Every man and his dog says they raced a c63 and beat it / kept up with it. It wouldnt have been a 543.2 bhp and 500ibft red cruise missile like this one. I have driven some very fast cars and this, in a straight line would keep up with them.
I took it to LeMans where it make the 1k mi journey seem easy, but it was hard reigning it in on the motorways. It would have been super happy to cruise at 150 all day long.
Fuel wasnt that bad. Ranging from 6.6mpg on track to around 26mpg when cruising on motorways.
It didnt like bends too much hence me putting on coilovers, and some PS4S. That helped lots. Its still not mega nimble but its a lot better.
This is a sledgehammer to crack a nut.
Gone, but not forgotten.

Agreed! I went through more tyres than tanks of fuel.
Wouldnt change it for the world, but also wouldnt do it again!
