[ Legacy build ] W204 C63

Today I have been over to Diamond-Performance.co.uk brand spanking new HQ. A very impressive place it is as well.

Paul had done me a carbon version of the air deflector. I am really really appreciative of this and its not just a silly bit of tat that provides aesthetic merit only. It simply works ! 92 deg C constant water temps.

Few pics to have a look at

No deflector :

Carbon defelector

I am going to have my geo redone and the setup verified as I am a little unhappy about how its performing.

I am finding that the car is shuddering ( can feel it moving left and right ) on the road and its ever so slightly left hand down when in a straight line. This could be the road camber, but I am going to ensure its not with a full alignment + weighting.

I have also noticed that at times the arse end feels disconnected to the front end. I have softened the adjustables to 14 clicks ( from soft ) on the front and rear and it feels about 1 million times better.

Car is booked in for a service a week today which is oil, filter , air cabin filters and plugs. Its not an wholly unreasonable amount even from a MB dealer. Its a lot more convenient for me to get it services at MB Manchester who as an added bonus I find are impeccable in their services both on the car and to me, as a person

had to get up before the sparrows farted this morning to get across Manchester.

I was a mere 8mi outside Doncaster and had a ZOMG moment.

I was coming off a roundabout at around 20mph ( I was conscious it was early , cold and likely to be slippy ) and the back end drifted quite severely out. I hit a patch of black ice I think.

I can only describe the sheer terror as “arse clenching”

I dont mind a slide or two , just when I chose to. Not at 0610 on a Thursday morning.

It appears I have killed my Conti Sport 5P in 3800mi.

Bugger.

Just above min tread.

Apparently these are a bit illegal.

Whoops.

Wasn’t 3800mi either. Was 4 months and 2400mi.

Trying out some PS4S. Changed all 4 over.

Booked into Blockys overboost on Friday and a health check on suspension and alignment.

Feb '18

So today we have been over to see @blocky at Overboost.

What a fantastic setup he has!

I explained to Andy that I wasnt happy with the way the car felt and we started by establishing the ratio between the front and rear heights on the standard car and applied the same ratio to the car whilst lowering.

In the end we used the arse end as a base height and raised the front end 15mm. That sounds a lot, but the reality is its not. We couldnt lower the rear end as I have a slight rub now as I am on the et42 from et54 standards with the ultraleggera. We have however ( well , Blocky, not me ! ) made a mod that has drastically reduced the rub unless a HUGE compression takes place.

It also been for an alignment on a fantastic bit of kit - a hunter hawkeye and the chap pointed out a few things that he would change. I asked does it have the alignment specs for a black series c63. Reason being is they have KW V3 and almost identical drops as me so it would be rude not to use their geo,

The car now feels superb.

Its raining here. Washed the car yesterday ( typical ) but also used some Sonax. Really rate this stuff. Beading is mad…

Went to football last night and the car threw a cel code.

I lost my old ODB2 reader so ordered another and will read the fault code at the weekend.

Reading up on the world wide web of lies ( the internet ) its looking like ;

o2 sensor ( bosch replacement which is identical to the MB part , just not a MB stamp is £170 ish )
faulty fuel cap ( yes , really ) - £20
purge valve - £80 ish. Plus skinning of knuckles on the OEM clips of death.

One of those three tend to trigger it.

Only the ODB2 will tell me for sure.

Abandon all hope of movement…

My ODB2 reader has just arrived. Set it up and used the excellent DashCommand on my iPhone.

P0050 HO2S Heater Control Circuit B2S1 is being reported and that looks like a dodgy o2 sensor.

I have cleared the fault for now and will see if it comes back. Ill get one ordered in the meantime I think.

k , so getting ready to order the replacement parts :

Genuine part number for front pre cat left and right ( they are identical on the w204 2010 487ps model is : A0035427018 this is also cross referenced as Bosch A0035427018 0035427018 35427018 or LSU-4.9, LS 17016 if you are looking on ebay. See here: Wideband Air/Fuel Oxygen (O2) Sensors | Bosch Auto Parts

Sensor changed out , light gone away [image]

Slight map tweak for a slightly more aggressive pop and bang ( not mad , like ) when about 3700RPM

Cleaned the car today as well…

It really needs some pro. Love but it’s ok for my level at the mo.

Had a strange one last night.

Drove my son to school.
Car was fine

Collected him from school and I noted a sound that can only be described as sounding like a pad dragging on the disc.

I finished work , and took off the wheel. Pads were ok. No signs of obvious overheating. No signs of sticking ( I could gently motivate them with a motivating stick ) in the carrier.

Must be the metal backing protection plate then.

Used the motivating stick a tiny bit more.

Drove the car to take eldest son to football and zero issues.

So in a nuthshell , if you get a weird metallic sounds noise from your car. Check the metal protection / backing pieces. It just might be that.

Got a bloody annoying clunk back again. I changed the top mounts last time but its reappeared.

Decided that I think as I disturbed the anti roll bar links its most probably those. Getting a price for left and right. Ebay febi ones I have seen are £23 each so not exactly daft money. Part 5 on the image

If it still does it then Ill check the anti roll bar bushes for degradation and finally the control arms ( part 1 ) as that is a fair bit more expensive.

Found this pic on the net of my car at ClioSport festival last year at Blyton. Love it .

Parts day.

Bought some genuine MB parts.

Dont fit.

The car has OEM suspension ( admittedly a set of coilovers , but that wont affect the drop link length! )

Something is a miss here. I think it might be as mine is a crossover car something is going on. I have a feeling I have the black series droplinks as they are much , much shorter.

Gone one better.

Called the legend @ Overboost , @blocky ( 01924 565600 ) and he has sorted me some from BC Racing.

Job , hopefully jobbed.
