Lee's Exige

Blanking caps for the the roll over bars, thanks to Mark for the idea. These parts always fill with water and corrode but no more and look factory

bit late to the thread ,but WOW .I absolutely love this kind of stuff, gives me inspiration to tackle stuff on mine.Well done Lee you crazy man!!

What a top idea!

Where can I get some?

I had some on my Elise that were just generic bungs from eBay… I just can’t remember what the ID of the tube is/was!

eBay is great for random stuff like that

You need 38 and a 30 :+1::+1:

That’s the one! I also bought some little tiny ones for blanking the little holes in the interior for the wing mirror bolts… but this was all before TitaniumDan came onto the scene with his fancy sticker replacements

Happy with how these have turned out, my intention was to replace all the boots and regrease but they are as new so left well alone. However de-rusted and painted as close to the original colours as possible.

And tomorrows job is the shotblasting of these ready for zinc coating and top colour, but i am unsure on wishbone colour was originally thinking silver, then gold and now onto slate grey :thinking:the car is Carbon Grey, any advice on colour welcome.

Good work, I’ve got a can of “driveshaft green” somewhere, think it’s maybe a touch darker than that but not far off. Looks much better than doing them in generic black though imo.

As for wishbone colours… go nuts, I really won’t care when it comes to mine… probably whatever is cheapest  I’d avoid the bright/lairy colours because I think it starts to look a bit kit-car, you’ve got a very clean/subtle styling approach going on so no need for anything lairy. Gold might be a good contrast whilst still being in keeping with the car, but I don’t think you’ve listed a bad choice!

GOLD

Did the gold on the Europa, must say i do kind of like it

Great, thanks, Lee

The new exhaust turned up today, and it really is a true work of art, seems a shame to hide it away. Literally from opening the box up to fitting it to the car was around 6 minutes, it really is that good.

I had not planned on running the car until i completed the work on the front, but i simply cant wait so i have filled the coolant up and am awaiting the gearbox oil then i can run it and see how it sounds.

Can I ask was the price comparable to something like 2bular? I can see myself being tempted.

The Backbox is £579, it’s full repackable and can have whatever tips you want oval or dual or single tape pipe. Full stainless steel 2.5” 7” diameter and 22” length however can change the length for whatever size they want and that is the beauty of them I got it bespoke made to what i wanted.
Best to speak to Joe Max88Performance.

Thanks for the info, looking forward to the video.

So thats the exhaust all installed, i am more than happy with the sound, fit and overall quality.

I just love getting rusty old parts back from the shotblasters, it just makes them look brand new.

All rear suspension hung up and with several coats of zinc galv primer, i use this as it gets into all areas.

Who does not like new parts days, new wheel bearings, sill panels, ball joints, clips, and discs. More on the discs later on.

I finally took the plunge and bought the gearbox oil, opted for Millers, not used it before so we will see how it performs.

New bushes pressed in and everything coated with 3 coats of zinc galvanised primer, the ball joints will be pressed in once paint has hardened.

Getting the temperature up to 35° the parts got 2 coats of Rustoleum top coat paint and it will harden off over the next week.

I think close up it looks as good as powdercoating and this is more hardwaring, flexible and can be easily touched up if damaged.

New hubs also painted as they come with no protection on at all and would show corrosion very early on.

Looks good Lee, would you need to rub back the zinc primer from the bearing faces/flanges etc or is it thin enough to leave in place?

Yes the plan is not to get to much on the mounting surface, before it goes together these sufices will have a rotary wire brush over to clean and paint off so its metal to metal.
