Lee's Exige

Well after the whole sorry incident of my lack of speedo, here is the post.

Well its getting to the point of the rear clam going back on

A little modification to the air intake feed, there is a 2mm lip that slightly blocks the airflow opening so very carefully removed it. Not sure if it will make any difference but worth doing.

Nice new roof rubber waiting to go on too

Hopefully this weekend will see the rear clam on and i can start thinking new windscreen fitting and interior :grinning:

Ah the old Letterbox mod. I did that too back when I was slumming it with an intercooler.

Looks good Lee, will feel great to get the car back together.

Steady progress. Let’s hope it won’t be long before it gets a run out up here with the rest of the crew. Salted roads and weather permitting

Did the letterbox mod yield much more airflow? I did it in my old car, but am hesitating as my car means cutting through carbon  I was going to go to ducting from the scoops instead as from memory its more bang for your back, but not sure if I am missing a trick?!

To be fair not sure, but as you cant see its been done i figured it wont hurt. Also done the side pod air feed

After the data that I logged, I certainly wouldn’t be cutting into carbon fibre for it!

Slowly puts Dremel back on the bench

Cheers that’s what I thought, back to the ducting plan!

Makes sense I’d normally have been straight at it, but I thought I’d show restraint this time!

Ducting is well worth it, the general results from my testing were:

  1. Ducting mod
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
  2. Oil Catchcans
  3. Intercooler heatshield == Letterbox mod

I’d recommend the ducting to anybody really, don’t see a downside!

Little modification is to trim off the latch cover so if the boot release cable ever snaps you can remove the arch liner and access the latch.

All Rear and front clam new stainless botls and washers.

Before the rear clam went on I treated it to a good clean inside and underneath.

Boot latch cable correctly fixed back so no issues with it touching the exhaust manifold.

Rear lid went on easily and its starting to look like a Exige again.

Tomorrow should see the boot finished off and the wing on.

Good progress again. Must be looking forward to getting it back on its own wheels.

Thanks, because the old wheels i have are off an Elise, the 5.5 front wheels are close to the front calipers so i have 17" of front and 16" rears. It does look different :grimacing:

Looking great :+1:

Can I just ask, what was the turnaround from Voodoo on the callipers?

Roughly about a week, first time i used Tony at Voodoo and he did a great job, new nipples too.

Great progress! Keep it coming

Thommo thankyou i will do my best.

While the front clam is off, it would be rude not to freshen up the grills, last year the clam got freshhly painted.
They got wire wheeled back to bare metal, zinc primered and topcoated satin black.

The brackets that are bonded to the front side panels that secure the side repeaters are rotten. New brackets from Lotus and they will be bonded in.

Rear is finished except for the deffuser and arch liners. Took the opportunity to run the DA the rear clam paint on super super fine compund.

Brilliant, cheers - sounds like less hassle than tarting up at home!

Great progress with the grills BTW, getting them properly black really lifts the car

Originally the windscreen was due to be changed this Saturday but supprise suprise Lotus never supplied the screen in time so a weekend of finishing off some boring jobs but they need doing before I can move on.

From a previous post the newly bonded in side repeater brackets got a coat of paint as there is little or no protection on them.

The cat pipe got wrapped with some titanium wrap, such a horrible boring job but it needs done.

Front clam side panels got a full clean inside, as years of crud had mounted some nice shiny fixings too

Happy with how the bonded side repeater turned out and seem to sit perfect with the repeaters fitted and wired up

Side panels fitted and happy with the panel gaps for now, ignore the dodgy PPF line and this is getting replaced, it was only a temporary home job after sills got sprayed during the first lockdown and I wanted to use the car over summer.

Wanting to bring the interior upto a more classy standard from the 240R interior i fitted Originally, i bought these seats.

Wanting to have a matching interior i sourced the original Alcantara and leather from Allon Whites and Martrim and got my good friend Ross to retrim the door cards, console and gators. I copied the current stitching pattern of the latest Lotus cars.

Ross also made me some top quality mats for a friends Elise 135, with full Lotus Sport embroidered logo, I like them so much I have ordered a set for my car.

I am in 2 minds what to do with the dashboard, vents and side panels but I think it will end up matching the seats and some nice Lotus Sport embroidery for good measure.

mats look ace ,what of cost are we looking at? pm me if you want

Great work Lee as ever.
