hey guys im going for the komo-tec conversion very shortly, not sure weather to go for the 250 or 280 conversion yet… my car is standard with no lsd and standard suspension.
Should i bother getting the ap four pot brakes, lsd and upgrade my suspension?
Is this conversion any good?
I dont track my car i just enjoy the drive.

Good luck if you have one with drive-by-wire.
Performance wise, not a bad kit, no supercharger whine - only thing I really don’t like about the kit is the location of the front cooler that blocks the watercooler of the engine located behind it. Makes it run less efficient - if you’re not thinking about tracking it though (and given it’s cooler up in England) you probably won’t notice it.
From what I can tell though, twin oil-coolers is a must (which you’ll have if you have the performance pack).
As for 250 or 280 - drive both. I don’t think there’s really much in it, as the 250 on paper is technically a 260 one.
I think looking at his avatar he already has an exige S and is looking at the Komotec upgrades. A guy on seloc has been raveing over his 280 conversion and reckons its putting down 291bhp which sounds alot for what they do but whatever it really is putting down he says its low 9’s to 100mph which is not bad at all.

If you are enjoying the drive, and don’t track your car then why the upgrade? Pub bragging rights? If so then the 280 kit us the only way to go
Seriously though the 280 kit does seem to be an excellent conversion, and good value. I was speaking to Greg at Hangar 111 and he was saying that one of their converted cars did make over 290 on the rollers.
Re 4 pot brakes, suspension and LSD. If its for road use only then you probably won’t need them. A pad swap to RS42s would be a good upgrade for the brakes.
If you are going to track it I’d start with the suspension, play it by ear on the LSD, and consider the 4 pots when you’ve finished off the standard disks.
Out of intrest, how much are looking at for the 280 kit?
Do Komo Tec honour the Lotus warranty which is invalidated on parts affected by the conversion, i.e. the engine and tranmission?
Cheers, Mark
No warranty at all after conversion, but my cars nearly two years old anyway.
250 conversion 3499
280 conversion 4699
AP 4 pots 1800
LSD not sure they have never fitted on to a S2 exige
O yeh forgot to ask do ya think the standard gearbox and clutch are upto this much power?

When you throw in the cost of the brake upgrade, LSD, HD clutch and no mechanical warranty, that makes the 240 upgrade for the S look cheap.

True, now that you mention it, you’re right. Although most of what I said still applies.
If I were you, I’d uprate the clutch, whilst you’re at it.
If the gearbox ain’t up to it, what are the alternatives?
Clutch should be fine, especially road use. If the clutch is still alright, I’d keep it and change it later to a sintered (and perhaps go with a lighter flywheel while at it). Seriously though, with a bit more torque than the 280kit, I haven’t had any problems with the gearbox or the clutch after 12000 miles still. Should be fine.
thanks for the advice lads.
think ill get 280 upgrade then see were to go from there.
if the car needs upgrading to cope it needs upgrading simple as, i guess.
The Exige-S 280S kit by Komo-Tec has been tested in a German mag with the following:
Max Power: 280hp at 8230rpm
Max Torque: 255Nm at 7700rpm
Dry Weight: 899kg (see list of modifications below)
0-50kmh (31mph) in 1.6s
0-100kmh (62mph) in 4.1s
0-130kmh (81mph) in 6.9s
0-160kmh (100mph) in 10.3s
0-200kmh (125mph) in 18.8s
Quartermile in 12.74s
60-100kmh (38-62mph) in 4th in 4.3s
80-120kmh (50-75mph) in 5th in 6.2s
80-120kmh (50-75mph) in 6th in 7.3s
Testing was done at 14C.
Modifications included carbon fibre wing and difusor, carbon fibre seats, ohlin suspension, larger breaks, aluminium fuel tank etc to bring the weight down to under 900kg.
Weird with that test it now appears you need 280bhp to make the Lotus figures on their website for the standard car
Either Lotus are lieing (NEVER!!! I here you all scream!) or the tester was not punishing the car enough

The figures Lotus are publishing are a joke. I’ve never seen them get anywhere close to them.
They were pushing it hard enough to get a 4.1s to 63mph though.
No car will ever produce the exact same results everywhere in the world - ambient temperature, oil temp, air-pressure are all very dependant on how a car performs (even on the dyno btw). What were the temps while your car was being tested? How heavy are you? Any other mods? Tyres? Tyre pressure?
The time to 63mph is very good (then again, it was running Kumho 245 wide tyres) - it’s the top end which I find rather surprising. Then again, it might just be because of the more aero drag (more downforce). Max torque at 7700rpm might be another thing, something that becomes a larger factor the higher the gear you’re in.
The time around the track was excellent though, regardless the pub-talk figures.
The test is from Auto Bild Sportscars and features it in a comparison against the Irmscher iS7.
