INDUCTION HOSE

One of those winter jobs today… cleaning up the pipecross air filter on the VHPD carbon Airbox…

The induction hose really needs replacing as it is tat at both ends… Does anyone know a suitable replacement… a bit longer than the original too so I can finally connect it to the CAI on the LHS? The original seems well ‘insulated’ against hot engine bay air, but the stuff on e-bay just seems to be the tube!

Also I only have ONE filter element, but gather that some have 2! In any event, should I re-install this at the CAI end, or into the airbox end?

Hope this question makes sense!!!

Many thanks,

Pete.

Pete

Not sure about the tubing replacement - but have you looked at Demon Tweeks? http://www.demon-tweeks.com/products/ProductDetail.asp?cls=ROAD&pcode=SFSSFD38-1

Martin may have some???

You’re fine with just the one cone filter - I would fit it at the CAI end. (There were originally two filters, plus a butterfly valve to enable the car pass the SVA test in the first place).

Thx Rob.

Found SFS performance hoses on tinternet

And indeed they recommended the hose as per your link. They do a double and single skin version.

Indeed they will any hose shape/size in silicone!!!

Very helpful peep on phone sent me photos… think this will be good for the job! Photo trail to follow perhaps!

Hi Pete,

Very much what Rob’s already said:-

http://www.revotec.com/catalogue_FlexDuct_S.asp?offset=16

the 152mm stuff on here is even better as it’s insulated. I use this on my racer with a single air filter on the airbox end.

Matches the car too…

Hi Steve,

PERFECT!!! And Silver too!!!

Will order tomorrow!

Many thanks… answers in just 20 minutes!!! BRILL!

Yep I think the single filter on the carbon airbox will be better as the mount will be more stable and easier to access and clean!

Cheers,

Pete.

Hi Steve,

PERFECT!!! And Silver too!!!

Well done boyz - top work

Looks good stuff but does it come in a standard length?

I use that stuff also. Goes from my air filter in the pasanger side pod, straight onto my turbo, so it can handle a bit of heat as well.

Steve, It’s usually priced per metre and can usually be any single length up to 4 metres. If I remember correctly I think I bought just 1 metre from BurtonPower (but it was bagged as revotec when it arrived anyway) and only ended up using 850mm of it.

Pete have you fitted this yet? if so some pix would help.

Steady on!!!

Order tomorrow! Only get it by the metre… and need about 80cm. Sooooo perhaps 3 or 4 of us ‘K’ types might wnat a ‘group’ buy??? It is circa 60/metre but I am sure a discount would be there???

You will need the inlet adaptor for the LHS too. Should be a simple job to fit and yes I will take the before and afters!

Just got things all set up… but decided to go out for a blast on the dry roads before assembly!!!

I had cleaned the PiperCross ‘Witches Hat’ filter, so just popped it on the carbon airbox…

What a brilliant improvememnt in power and induction noise a really clean filter makes!!!

This now has me thinking…

Is it better to keep the original Carbon Airbox with the CAI feeding the single Pipercross filter… OR… go for an ITG Megaflow from PTP that offers a bigger filter area with less restriction, ducting the CAI to the frontal area of the throttle bodies???

http://www.ptp-ltd.co.uk/shop/21_37/lotus/lotus_exige_s1,_340r_and_elise_sport_190/induction_system/_itg_megaflow_filter__backplate.htm

I guess the intake air would be hotter with this compared with the modified CAI hose setup, but think I would not get the same air mass flow with the PiperCross Witches Hat as is offered with the IDG!

Any thoughts please! Before I start cutting the silver CAI hose to size!!!

Many thanks!

Pete.

I use the standard airbox with the hose you’ve looked at Pete and I’m getting ‘rather more’ than 190bhp.

Alot of bigger more powerful engine breathe through considerably smaller intake hoses so don’t worry about that too much. I’m sure I read on one forum about the sausage type filter (regardless of brand) really killing the power on a VHPD too…

Sausages killing power! Thats interesting… PTP seem quite keen on their version and it does have a much bigger surface area than the Pipercross…

I would not get the same air mass flow with the PiperCross Witches Hat as is offered with the IDG!

Ain’t that the truth!

Hope he sees this thread

The ITG filter fits inside the standard airbox. I have this setup.

Isn’t it about time you brought your Exige out to play on track again?

Come on be honest… we do miss you, you know

Just signed up for a long term deal with a BaT cat from Jonny I love my VHPD but think it might be a little fragile for tracking now…maybe if it blows and I get an Audi in there

Get the bloody thing used, & stop being a wimp!

It’s going to need some serious work sooner or later, so enjoy it while you can/are still able
