Indian GP

Is it just me or is anyone else losing their passion for F1? I enjoy the build-up, the features etc on Sky much more than I do the race.
The New Delhi circuit looks great but it was so depressing watching through a haze of pollution. I had it on in the background and it wasn’t until the last 5 laps that I got more keenly interested.
I don’t think my lack of interest is due to the dominance of Vettel but I admit I went through a similar period of disenchantment when Mr Schumacher was doing all the winning.

I really appreciate the technology involved (wish I could understand it), but the actual racing bores me to death. I make an effort to watch the Monaco & Brazilian Grand Prix, but none of the others.

Sportscar/Prototype racing, & VSCC/Historic racing are where it’s at for me!

Changing tyres after 3 laps says something about the sorry state of F1 today.

Too many stupid investigations and rules regarding mild contact etc and the new points system gives no incentive for overtaking

Even Monaco is boring these days

dull even watching the highlights

roll on turbo era

BTCC finale was epic

I think Monaco has always been fairly dull. Great spectacle for the build up, backdrop and 2 fingers up to the H&S bods though. Last good race I remember had 3 finishers due to the rain. The one before that Mansell getting a puncture and hounding Senna, on worn out tyres, for several laps up to the end. See, rubbish tyres aren’t a new thing!! So 2 races in 25 plus years??

F1 is a business, same as every motorsport sadly. As long as there are enough people to pay for coverage, advertisers to cover the cars in logos and 20+ entrants, that’s all that matters. At the end of the day, what would it cost for any of the top teams/sponsors to have 2+ hours of screen time on every countries TV on 20 sunday afternoons. Let alone the BBC!!

As soon as you let the rules/money saving decide the cars performance and shape, then you are into he who has the biggest cheque book wins - at the end of the day, you are only cheating when/if you get caught!! V8 supercars is another example. Get a road car, fit the biggest engine and adhere to some fairly looseish rules and the racing was great. Change it so its a standard space frame with panels from whichever manufacturer pays the most, not so good.

Rules should be, you need the car to fit in this size box and use a maximum of this much fuel. Other than that, fill your boots!!

Ohh, and every F1 race should be held a Bathurst. Maybe with a time trial up Pikes Peak twice a year. Once when the snow is falling!

For those of us who can remember most of the World Championship for F1 since it started in 1950 (alright, even I was too young for the earliest days), there is no doubt that F1 is less of a sporting spectacle than it has been at any time in its entire life.

It is strangled by technology such that it simply isn’t fun or fair. The teams at the back of the grid simply cannot match the budgets and therefore the technology that is at the front. In many respects you have to admire Red Bull, who are NOT one of the favoured few drawing special favours from BE or the FIA, for the fact that they have wiped the floor with Ferrari, McLaren and the like.Newey and Vettel are obviously a class act.

I often wonder what would happen if they simply banned all the things that do not translate into road car technology (mostly all that aerodynamic crap I suppose) and allowed development of anything that actually improves mechanical grip, engine life, energy saving and the like all of which would be useful on road cars. I’m sure it would be more fair and more entertaining.

As it, I still find it al fascinating and, whenever I see a F1 car at full chat I am always amazed that it can go so fast and apparently defy the laws of physics. It is very clever, but very boring…

3 races in 31yrs

The last few laps in 1982 were class

Goto agree with that, although I don’t go that far back!! There is a definite draw to them, possibly partly as they and BTCC are the only regular well televised racing on normal TV?

We’re all into out Lotus’s, making them quicker than they left the factory. However you don’t realise how quick a ‘real’ racing car goes until you are really close to one at speed. Standing on the pitwall at Brands is probably the closest I have been and it was physically painful to be stood less than 10 feet away as the Euroboss cars passed at +160mph, still accelerating and changing up, where the Elise trophy guys were braking.

Do the same as road drag cars and make them drive to Tesco’s and fill up with some pump fuel?

:o Shit!!! Can’t believe it was that long ago!!! I was 8 or 9 at the time, and still a memory. You can imagine in your own head what Mansell was saying. And how big a grin was on both of their faces!

I’m with Tim, really enjoyed the BTCC finale more than pretty much any other motorsport I’ve seen this year…proper racing :sunglasses:

I dont ‘get’ the rules!

We have seen in recent races, drivers getting ‘drive through’ penalties for overtaking other cars having gained an advantage by running off the track (defined as all 4 wheels being outside the white lines on the track edges… YET, Vettle sets a record braking poll position lap doing just that!!!

Tell me WHY that lap was allowed!!! It seems as if even the rule makers don’t understand that??

Could be worse. They could all be running, sorry driving, around falling over constantly, while feigning life threatening injuries whilst the reffere tells them to get up and stop being a silly boy, whilst the rest of the team and crowd cry for the offender to be sent off. Only to be up and running, sorry driving, around 2 minutes later like nothing had happened.

Try a plane and pull 6 G at 150 kts one day John…
It’s one of those things to do before you die !
Not saying race cars ain’t awesome at all but the sky is a very different playground to tarmac !

Am sure it is. Let me know next time and I’ll be up for that!!!

Or 60mph at the end of that Ski Jump ramp eh

Try 8G at 480 Kts mate!!!

I used to be 6’6"!!!

You still are
Its just across now!

BTCC - yep, Final Round this year at Brands was terrific
