Hi, I have an S2 exige (standard 190 BHP)…tonight I accidentially went to 3rd from 4th, whilst the engine was already at about 6,000 rpm. As soon as 3rd engaged, the redline/ change-up light came on and god knows what the revs were. Anyway, then the revs started bouncing up and down around 5 to 6,000 rpm, which I assume was the rev limiter? I tried the car through to the power cam again afterwards and all seems ok. I just wondered if I might have caused any damage?
Speed at 6000rpm in 4th, should be the same as about 7000rpm in 3rd? Was just trying to think how many revs are reduced when going from 3rd to 4th at the same speed and not 100% sure but i think it reduces by about 1000rpm so you should be fine.
Thanks guys. I drove the car to work this morning and all seems well. I’m not sure exactly how high the revs went, but high enough for the change-up light to immediately illuminate. I assumed the bouncing between 5 or 6,000 rpm (ish) straight after was the rev limiter. It was a bit of a messy moment really, which started with someone right up my er backside!!! Anyway I think the engine was at temperature, so it should be ok.
I’m always hitting it on track…no time to change and/or a benchmark to see how many times I bounce off it before braking again…

As alluded to by Ade, Rev limiter protection only works when changing up - it’s fooked if you buzz the engine. I have heard of a TypeR being buzzed to 27000rpm (6th to 2nd instead of 4th), before exploding (ECU recorded the incident).
