It would seem silly not use it on track days if my car came equipped with this.
There is no supplement added to my manual for this so?
How do i arm the system. I can see the big red button to fire the system. and i know it is something to do with the little box behind and between the seats but thats were my talent ends.
Also does any one know what servicing the system needs and intervals.
The extinguisher should have the service date on it, what extinguisher is it?
Editā¦If its Lifeline the box/switch will have test and arm I think on either side of centre. Test will light the LED, battery ok and arm (so long as the plug is in on the extinguisher) does just thatā¦donāt press the red button
Is there anyway to properly test these systems ie. with compressed air maybe so you can check that youāve got pressure at all the nozels and that it actually does fire when you hit the button?
In the same vein as Daveās comments/questions about big wheels and not meaning to pour ācold waterā over all of this fire suppression stuff, but when did an Exige last catch fire?
(Yes I know about āthat oneā!!!)
All seems a bit overkill to meā¦ adds a lot of weight too!

I agree with everything you say, and i plan to remove the system at some point, but thought i might as well use it since i have it. It is their primarily for competition regs. When i bought the car, i enquired whether track day marshals would even know that the car had external switches for this and the dealer said, āhe was sure most would be awareā but he also told me the instructions for use was in the folder of papers.
Hmm! just wondering were i would stand insurance wise, if i removed the system then melted my car and track in the middle of Druids.
Exiges that have caught fire that I can recall in 2 minutes: RussT, Guy Evans (Nitron), Malcolm Sanders (MSR), Steve Hibbert, Tony Doe (Elise ???)ā¦ (Maybe Benja has some pictures of some of the cars?).
Plenty of Elises too, but I canāt remember specific cars as I write this.
Top Cat - do not remove to save weight (or any other reason either)!!!

Iām sure the Lotus archivist would sort you out with the relevant document if there was one with the car when new. Let me know if you need contact details, Iāve got them at the office somewhere.

Ooh!, i have never heard of any, thats a bit scary.
Thanks Rob.
PS are you sure your not getting mixed up with 458ās and R8 V10ās
I certainly wouldnāt remove a fire extinguisher to save weightā¦ in fact if you are doing a lot of track days Iād recommend fitting one! A gas filled FX is not heavy anyway.
You canāt be too safe ! - thereās been lots of āoffsā at track days, some quite big onesā¦ you are generally pushing you car a lot harder on track and if something is going to break, itāll be on trackā¦ an oil leak onto an exhaust is all it takes.
Lol I canāt believe Pete just wrote that heās a dodgy Aussie
āWelcome aboard todayās flight to Sydney, Iām your Captain Pete The Dodgy Aussie. Time to destination should usually take 9 hours but due to the fact I havent seen a 757 catch fire Iāve removed the fire suppression systems and those stupid looking Oxygen masks so we should be there in approx 8 hours 40 minutes. So if youāll please settle into your seats as quickly as possible weāll get underway. Donāt worry about the belts, theyāre fecking useless and next to goā.
