1770 lbs Standard weight
1620 lbs Honda.
How the hell did that shave 150lbs from the car
Did notice it looks like the honda Exige has no engine cover, but does that weigh close to 150lbs

Actually, I have for some time wondered whether we should do similar comparison videos between our own cars, e.g. standard Exige against 190, 190 against DVA + Emerald, DVA + Emerald against Honda, Honda against Supercharged, not forgetting Duratech and Audi turbo and of course all of the combinations of these cars !!!
ALL the cars would be trying, with NO backing off, it goes without saying…
Imagine them all in a line, on a big wide 2 mile runway, like in a Jeremy Clarkson video !!
Of course the real test would be how they went round a proper circuit… but that might upset some of the trackday organisers and insurers
I think some of you are referring to the videos I shot of my car when I did the Honda conversion and documented it in a thread on SELOC HERE (be warned it’s a day’s reading)!
The links to the vid’s have long since died. But I’ve uploaded a 0 - 120 vid I shot a couple of days after I finished the conversion. Click HERE to see it - note slow gearchanges and whacking the limiter on every change .
My car is a Prototype conversion and it made 223bhp at Emerald. I believe the Prototype cars are quicker than the Blink conversions (on paper) if you look at the torque curves the Prototype cars are making a lot more midrange torque (I’ll put up the charts if anyones interested).
I’ve no comments regarding the Prototype video, but from my own experiences so far - (half a dozen trackdays and 4 or 5 sprints) the Honda conversions be they Blink or Prototype are the ultimate evolution of the Elise/Exige. Reliability and Power in one package you can’t ask for much more.
Yes, but the performance difference can’t be like the videos on Joes site (see link in first page)
That’s my point.
Hi ian
how are you ?.. its a pleasant unexpected surprise to see you over here in exigeland…
I don’t think any of us doubt the power/acceleration/reliability credentials of the Honda conversion, but most of us are doubting that the vids in the first post on this thread are genuine.
anyway… hope to see you at a track-day this year somnewhere… take it easy…
Whilst I appreciate that many of us will have followed the “SELOC” discussion following a recent rolling road session involving K & Honda powered Elise derivatives, an “interesting” thread has now started on this USA bbs Elisetalk forum
Got to smile, haven’t you?
Wow… you could say a few folks out there don’t see eye-to-eye… real shame really…
Blime! Joe letting rip again!
“ignorant Brits” - nice!
Ian
Perhaps he used this software… http://www.virtualengine2000.com claimed to be accurate to +/-5% it told me my engine was 450BHP & 351ftlbs torque not bad for 1.8 K series However it must be true, its American
Hey congrats Pesky, you’ve just made it to ‘old hand’!
Been registering to fight it off?!
Ian
I just read the entire thread on the US BBS, and also reread the Emerald web info…
I am glad to be an ignorant Brit !!
The only reason for using Emerald was to optimise the mapping for my car, and that means using the technology to make multiple runs and select the best configuration. It was miles better afterwards, compared to before - case closed !!
Obviously the calculated / simulated flywheel figures are only of passing interest - and I am the first to joke about my computed 213.5 BHP - but it’s how the car feels on the road that matters…
If I am a “gang-rapist”, then “you know who” must be “Hannibal Lechter”, since he is always taking on the world, and is always right, especially when he is wrong, and he also tends to bite off more than he can chew !!
Common sense rules - OK ??
I also read all those thread.
I’ve to say that i do not feel confident, i’ve a PR kit
on order (payed some money…big money) and do not hear anything from joe for a while.
Anyway i will be happy if i will receive the kit and it will give 230 bhp…

Nicolas
I hope things do work out alright for you…
Don’t believe everything you read on a BBs…
thanks mike,
i know joe will not go on holiday for a while with my money, but u know…u always have the doubt…
Anyway i know i will not have 275 hp with my engine.
I will be happy to feel a good difference anyway, will see.

I hope you can hang on in there… I don’t think you will be disappointed… why don’t you give him a phone rather than wait for him to contact you? Ask Ian Wilson (iwilson) who posted 3posts from top of page3 on this thread, for some advice – he dealt with Joe and all his foibles whilst installing his PTR kit from a parking space in Nederlands (you will have seen the thread on SELOC yes ?).
Anyway, IMHO, I think Joe is probably a great engineer (and having seen his kit and heard first hand from Ian - it would be difficult to disagree with this).
His problem (to me anyay) would appear to stem from the fact that he is a one-man-band, with too much to do and perhaps no trust in others to do stuff properly for him? That doesn’t really help you, but my strategy for dealing with it would be to keep in touch with him and be patient (you’ve got an exige so you have similar experience dealing with its multi-million pound father anyway yeh ??)
Maybe… for the rest of us - Joe will get a business manager he can trust to run his show and do his communicating to leave him at what i think he prolly does best… build things and solve engineering problems.
Anyway - i felt compelled to write because, whilst seeing the issues flying around I think there’s too much testosterone involved and it doesn’t really help anyone.
I’m just glad i am a Euroscot
I think the same Rox, thanks. Anyway i tried to contact him per phone and per e-mail…but as u say he is very busy.
I can’t wait for the kit…
Ciao
Nicolas
Hi Nicholas
I’ve driven RussT’s Honda powered Exige many times - I wish I could afford to have the same in mine!
I’m sure that you will be very pleased with the conversion once it’s installed.
Please let us know of progress
Hi Rox, been lurking here forever… Just got back from a few weeks in India. Made a note to myself never to complain about driving standards in Europe again…
Nicolas - you have mail.
