Honda/Audi

Been driving a Civic Type R all week, and it’s been great fun. You have to litterally hit the rev limiter on the road car to keep it in the VTEC zone between changes which is an issue when your carrying the weight of the road car but not an issue in the Light weight Lotus

Chris

In the Lotus we use mappable ECUs, so VTEC switch point can be altered eg it’s 4500rpm in mine.

Gearchange - just wondering which consersions you’ve driven? The Edwards conversion uses the same arrangement as that in the Civic (ie weighted at the gearbox end). I have the “normal” conversion set up, but with a short shift, & the gearchange is “rifle bolt like”, although it’s not to everyone’s taste.

Hi Rob,
it wasn’t by any means a dig at any of the Honda conversions…far from it. I was meaning that in the CIVIC car it is an absolute faultless gear change set up and as yet to my knowledge has not been replecated in any conversion…When it is then surely this is one of the ultimate gear set ups for quick high reving gear changes…

Probably has somehing to do with Hondas budget being in the millions for this one item alone…

Can’t you just take the civic’s shifer mech and transplant it onto the lotus? A set of longer cables should not be difficult?

I see some conversions cut off the counter weight on the gearbox linkage. Any reason why this is so?

Chris

Don’t worry, dude, I didn’t take it as a dig at all, just wondered which ones you’d been in As I said before, whilst I like the gearchange in mine, I know a couple of owners of Honda converted cars, who think it’s horrid

I think I need to drive a Civic TypeR, cos I haven’t yet (or even been a passenger in one), so I can’t really appreciate your comments!

Yeah, but that’s only through choice Mr P, not ability.

No choice I’m afraid - reality of lack of cash & ability, in equal measures.
