Hello to all and a noisy top end query

First post for me on this forum and straight away a thank you to those who unwittingly helped me solve my 5500rpm misfire problem. As many of you suggested checking the wheel speed sensor connector fixed the issue straight away. All before I even joined…Cheers Folks.
Now to more serious issues…I have been living with my S1’s top end rattle/knock for a while and beginning to worry it may not be normal. It taps under load, more so when cold but is quiet when the engine is not under accel load or on the overrun. Can anyone confirm if this is common with VHPD K-series (my friends VVC unit sounds sweet as under the same conditions).
I’ve read that some of you have had top end re-builds done at reasonable rates, can anyone recommend anywhere in the Midlands?

I’m starting to go knocking crazy.

PS engine has done 45000 but was rebuilt at 20000 by Lakeside.

Where in warwickshire are you ?

I’m Just outside Leamington Spa

Although its impossible to say whether yours is normal, it is common to have this with a VHPD

Well then my friend get yourself “into” leamington spa and drop round and I’ll take you out in mine and you can compare.

drop me a pm as I’m about 2 mins outside the centre of Leamington.

I have some time off next week and we are house-sitting for the in-laws in Warwick. I’ll also have my SC Honda beastie with me if you want to compare yours to a proper engine Let me know if you fancy meeting up for a drive.

…and I’m just a few miles away in Kineton so that’s three Exiges within, say, 10 miles of each other. Common as muck…

And mine in Coventry. Loads of proper Exiges closeby.

As for the original question, sound like it may need a top end rebuild, mine did at 28k miles, cost about 800 but that included the ITG filter and a new set of exhaust valves

Well I am around in Warwick now until Sun if anyone fancies a meet up - Con give me a shout if you fancy a pax one evening.

I can do Wed or Thu evening, possibly Friday evening or Saturday. I’m sure we could all name a decent pub if we decide to go ahead…

Thursday or Friday pm is good for me too.

Possible pubs :-

The Saxon Mill near Warwick on the road out to Leek Wooton. Couple of mins of the A46 but parking quite limited.

Durham Ox in Shrewley - some nice twisty roads on the way there. Good beer garden right next to the good size car park. 5 mins from Warwick.

The Waterman - Hatton - don’t know if its nice but a big bikers meet there most Wednesdays. 5 mins from Warwick.

There’s also one that does not bad grub in Radford Semele but cant remeber the name.

Thurs or Friday okay for me.

I was going to suggest the Red Lion in Hunningham.
Map (hopefully)

Red Lion’s a good shout.

Forecast is better for Thursday evening - forecast is for temps to drop and showers on Friday.

7.30 ?

7:30 sounds good to me. Better hope the Exige battery isn’t flat

7.30 at Hunningham sounds fine. See you there.

Looks like my little old Black K series will be properly outgunned by the Local screaming Honda hybrids but I’ll see you there to, rattle and all…

Tim,

It did sound very rattly when you left.

Cheers chaps for a very pleasant evening standing in a pub carpark

I am not certain but I think Con liked the SC Honda

Con also reminded me that a standard Exige S1 is plenty quick enough down Warwickshire country lanes,…You had quite a lick o’ speed going there matey,…I had to use full throttle sometimes to keep up
