GT4 2-11 with SVA

I remember him as I worked at his house once, he lives… lived? up the road from me. I think he is a friend of Steve from Europa too.
Reet I’m off to bed, hopefully it will be dry tomorrow and I can get the car out of the garage

Yes I’d love to buy it Damon, had it been available (or the parts available) when I bought my car back in 2007 I would have deffo ticked a few more option boxes thats for sure…

TBH The 2-11 is one of only two cars I have ever bought brand new and I bought it with the sole view to go racing in it. When you look what else is on the market that you can buy and pretty much race straight out the box it clearly sticks its head and shoulders out above the crowd of radical and westfield type cars (in my eyes anyway).

So the 80k GT4 car… Well lucky old me got to drive one at Snett a few weeks ago at the Lotus Festival.

Anyone seriously considering this car the price is more like 66k +VAT (which I would imagine in most cases can be claimed back as a lot of people with this sort of dosh will generally own their own businesses). I dont know why Lotus quote the added VAT price when trying to sell race cars, perhaps they should stop doing it and it would not scare people off so quickly at first glance…

So what do you get over and above the 40k standard s/charged car? Quite a lot actually (i’ll try and list everything but no doubt will forget some little bits)

Big wing and splitter
oil/water laminova cooler
Sequential box inc adapter plate, drive shafts, lsd and programmable ecu
Race clutch
race fly wheel
full race manifold, cat and back box
tonneau cover
FIA full cage
fire extinguisher and electrical cut-out
270 ecu upgrade and new pulley (which is more like 280-285 bhp)
GT4 spec ohlins
hans seat and 6 point harness
brakes
70ltr FIA tank
Airfilter
Fuel drain attachment
arrangement of catch tanks
full FIA certs for racing (can pretty much go anywhere with the car and race it straight from the factory)…

  • the little bits I have forgot (anderson plugs, SVA etc…).

Considering 18k of the additional cost is the gearbox (thats not a fitted price btw), the car itself is almost a give away when you fully look at the idea behind it…Buy the car Saturday, go GT racing Sunday then drive it to work Monday if you really have to…

Yes 18k for a gearbox is an awful lot of money but if working with mechanical pieces of equipment for the last 20yrs has taught me anything then you really do only get what you pay for, and believe me it is one awesome bit of kit!!

Of course you dont need to buy the g/box - There are at least three GT4 spec cars racing in LCE this year running with everything but!!

Unfortunately (for Lotus) my car is too much like my old leather jacket now in the sense that its already bedded to my shape and I’ll never sell it no matter how tatty it gets!! That gearbox though is keeping me up at nights!! MUST HAVE ONE!!! I have no doubts that my car will eventually resemble a GT4, the expensive way round mind!!

The other good thing about a 2-11 in a GT class would be the running costs… probably 5 times cheaper than anything else on the grid!! Very easy to work on and replace panels and a lot of parts which are on the road going cars so easy to obtain and change at a moments notice.

20-30k for the race weekend? (fook me thats almost half the cost of the car…)
dont know how much the entry fees are but Im sure I could do it a damn sight cheaper than that!! 2-3k max!!

Thanks for that Gav

The FIA weekend costs would be shared with a co-driver and it is for a team of 6-8 techs, which you do need if you are going to be competitive.

Your tyre bill from Avon/Michelin would be bigger than 2k for the weekend alone.

What sort of figure are the Entry Fees, Damon? Something in my head is saying around 5K - does that sound right???

Personally,I would never have a turbocharged car. They all have lag in spite of what is claimed.Thats why F1GTR is No1.

think your in the wromng thread ducatiman??

5k for entry fees? that cant be right?? that would pay for a full year race entry into LOTRDC and some… if it is 5k then they can keep it as Im not that desperate to race… probably be better competition to see who can throw their cheque book the furthest insteasd of a welly!!

I rekon I could do it on 2 sets of tyres, feul, race entry fee and 2 mates!!

Some things are not for the internet

Okey, dokey, with the help of Google:

LOL

Everything is for the internet. Jesus, its not like he was asking for your pin number or the combination to your safe!

I think the tyre bill would also not be that bad, as Lotus’s are very easy on tyres compared to other cars. We run Steve Taylors 300+BHP Exige in GT Cup and his car is very easy on tyres.

Gav, BUY THE GEARBOX!!! You know it makes sense!!!

Yeah we run Steve’s car out of the back of a Vito with an ezi up and he got 2nd in class last time out, you don’t need an army of thousands and an artic!

Come and have a go in mine when we are next at a track day together, I bet I can change your mind!!

In all fairness, mate, FIA GT4 is a bit different to GT Cup. That’s taking nothing away from what Steve/JRS are doing - I think it’s brilliant :sunglasses:

Yep thats the way to do it. There was nothing I enjoyed more than when I started karting by turning up in the paddock with a 3yr old, 1500, s/hand kart in a shabby old 20 a day Economy Hire van and parking up next to and pissing all over the guys with their 100k race mobiles and every karting accessory going… Oh what fun we had!!

Well the car is now 2yrs old Sean and other than a bit of general maintenance and a few little bodywork clashes here and there it has done me totally proud and cost relatively F.A… I was thinking of a nice road car again (porker/audi etc) but TBH I would be bored of it in 6 months and the cost of running it and the deprec I’d see I;m favouring spending the money on a gearbox!! LoL

It shouldn’t need to be though really Pesky, only thing I can see being the bummer is the enrty fee, and bolloxs to the testing and need for more tyres…

I might even look at doing one of the rounds next year just to prove a point if nothing else

Go for it dude - you’ll get loads of us from here (& other Lotus sites etc) supporting you. :sunglasses:

GT4 Race by Race entry fees http://www.gt4cup.com/system/_download.php?key=75

Fees are negotiable, if you want to do a round check the regs and I can see if Phil can pull some strings (no promises).

“fees are negotiable”

There going to have to be aswell… LoL

Seriously though if I could get onto a single round next year and the associated costs are acceptable then I’d probably be up for doing it for experience if nothing else.

Croft, Oulten or Donny would probably be the ones I’d look at.

When all the lights are flashing we’ll go a Porker bashing - la la, la la, la la la la la al…

FIA GT4 is Silverstone only.

Brit GT for Oulton or Donny and cheaper.

Sorry Damon little or no idea of the rules regs and set-up etc,

FIA GT4 silverstone?? is that like some touring championship in the UK for one round only and then off else where??
