Developed by Lotus Sport from the highly successful and much acclaimed Lotus 2-Eleven, the GT4 Supersport has been designed to win in the 2009 SRO GT4 Supersports championship. Taking the production standard 2-Eleven as its basis, the car features a host of detailed changes that enhance the cars performance and durability under racing conditions.
Agreed wouldn’t buy one (even if I could afford it), I would go for the normal 2-11.
Would you go for the heavy weight of a Porsche Rob? Not sure I would for track fun.
I’ve spent a lot of time with the ‘Porsche Boys’ and seen how much money they spend on consumables for not much more pace. Sure Hangar straight is a bit boring in the Lotus, but when you get to Stowe its much more rewarding for me in a light car.
I must admit that “my” car choice is peculiar to me, & will undoubtedly seem strange (crazy!!!) to most others! My starting point is wanting a car which is excellent on both road & track, & looks fantastic to my eyes. The GT3RS ticks all the boxes for me - to the extent that even if I had 1M to spend on a single car, I can’t think of anything else I’d prefer (assuming a Maccy F1 is 1m plus). Yep, I like the odd Fezza, Lambo, Aston, but…
As I say, my choice is peculiar to me, & not rational/logical! To emphasise that, I would NOT swap my Exige for anything under 100K, apart from a GT3RS. Yep, “Exigeness” is very special to me
You have a point Rob. A few of the guys I know with GT3’s/RS’s etc have enjoyed the Exige but like the ability to hoon off to Spa and Nurburg, so the best of both world’s i guess (at a cost).
I’ve completely dropped the dual-purpose car thing. A compromise in both functions just doesn’t do it for me now. If I keep the Exige (i.e. don’t change for a 2-11) it will gradually be stripped and made more and more track focussed.
Although its sat doing nothing atm, the ride height, geo and damper setting are all track only as I intend to trailer it to circuit.
Do you know, Mr Pesky, I reckon my first real-world choice would be the same as yours.
I was never a great fan of the McL F1 but DK Engineering have an absolutely magnificent GTR for sale 1.6m reduced price) with
Le Mans history, the lot… but, then again, an F40 would be great.
But in the real world it must be the Porsche GT3RS
I’ve been lucky enough to have been out on track in both, & I know which is the best “all rounder”(for me anyway) However, the F40 does win the visual impact stakes
GT3RS for me as well, favourite car for as long as I can remember now. Just awesome in every way. Or maybe even the new nissan gtr … its going to be odd seeing those at trackdays and indicating to let them past.
80K, sure is David. Not expensive for a pure racecar in reality. Don’t forget you’d also need a further substantial budget (in 100Ks) to actually race it in GT4. No doubt Damon will have a more accurate idea of the costs involved.
Nissan GT6 - saw one on the M61 yesterday (in Jonnyfox’s colour). Looked great on the road, but on track, who knows yet?
You can actually get the car cheaper if you enter the FIA GT4 series as there is a discount associated with that.
The main issues is the hour-life of the components. I haven’t got the details but I would say the engine is pretty long-houred but will still need refreshes.
The gearbox would be the more regular item for tlc I reckon. Then the susp parts.
Ball park figure for an FIA GT weekend is circa 20-30k.
I love the look of the new 997 GT3 RS, and I spoke to a guy who has one who races a Radical and he loves his 997. Says it is a much nicer every day and occasional track day car than the 996 he had previously. I would love one at some stage.
No I’m not that lucky Are we talking F40 vs F1 or GT3 RS? I dont really know what any are like to drive but the F40 came before the others so we can let it off a little dynamically because it looks great
Sadly, I’ve not been out in a MaccyF1, but if you know anyone who could sort that for me…
Both the F40 & GT3 were owned by the same guy (you may remember him from the old Belmont meets - he also had a 360) & he raced Caterhams. His F40 was basically a race car, & his instructor (Vince Woodman) took me out in it at Oulton. Very special, but somewhat “agricultural” in today’s terms.
