GT3 body conversion

That’s what I’d have in mind aswel [/quote]

Going for 255 wide tyres…I think thats a 10.5 rim from memory.

You will easily get 295’s on a 10.5" rim. 255’s are nice on a 9" rim.

Fancy a pint this week Nick? Be good to catch up before xmas and hear of the latest developments. Also want your views on a few plans for mine…

Chris - pleased to say the old gal is going well.

I was hoping for 295/30/18 tyres on the rear, and 235/40/17 on the front if they can be made to fit?

To be honest, I’ve not really thought too much about wheel sizes yet. I was thinking along the lines of the GT3 concept car, which are: - 195/50 R16 - 255/40 R17

I don’t want to go too large as it probably ruin the handling, and I don’t think its needed tbh.

Yeah - give us a shout mate. Could probably squeeze a few cheeky ones in on thursday.

What power will you be running?

330-350bhp

yeah you should be fine with the original GT3 sizes then

Advice given to me from a very well respected person in the Lotus world was to run 245’s on a 9" rim (A048’s that is). Gives the effect of stretching the rubber over the rim, lowering the profile and increasing the rigidity of the side wall.

This is the reason I have decided not to go with the wide body conversion on mine.

I dont believe bolting bigger wheels/spacers on to be the best method for accomplishing what your trying to achieve. Neither did the factory when they made the original race car, they changed them over for a very good reason - Handling and suspension geo!! The concept car never really looked right, the rears just didn’t fill the arches out as they should.

For me It all has to work right as well as look good. By simply bolting on a set of Carlos Fandango’s you could quite easily cause yourself a lot of set-up headaches and poor handling on top of what is already an expensive and time consuming job, of course you wont know if there is a problem until it is all back together…

The correct way to go around it would be to run the longer w/bones, driveshafts and all the rest of the gubbins. Your still in to unknown territory though as you’ll be spending vast amounts of money on what are essentially untested parts… Potential for an even bigger headache!!

Or you could just get the proper sized wheels and be done with it…

16x7.5 215/40/16 front, 18x10.5 295/30/18 rear…

You really should ask those that have done it right the first time before you go on hearsay and speculation…

Quick edit… I built my car around the proper sized tires and wheels for the power…

What flavour tyre do run on the front? No stickies over here in that size - Hoosier’s are sort of legal, but only if they have the right E marking on the sidewalls. And wouldn’t like to argue it on the side of the road with plod.

Genuine question by the way, not Frank baiting

Quick update…

This is pretty much how my car looked once we got the car back to the workshop after the Christmas meet despite being soaked through and a full stomach of sausage and mash, we managed to strip the interior, front and rear clam in just a few hours. Weve started to offer up the front of the GT3 clam to work out what needs to be cut, but unfortunately not a lot has happened since with the Christmas/new year break.

This week we should see the wishbones stripped and sent to the powder coaters and more progress in mounting and cutting the clams. Ill start a project thread with the next proper update once I have some pics of the progress

Looks fat with a PH that matey

Out of interest what are your plans for front indicators?

It does look phat lol. The front is actually no wider than the standard clam though.

Probably go for led indicators inserted into the light unit. Not fully decided yet.

I remember Frank (Ronin) had some nice LED indicators built in to the headlight pods.
Maybe he could post up some close up pics ?

Is the front clam a similar weight to the standard one?

No, the GT3 clams are noticeably lighter. I even asked for my set to made slightly thicker with it being a road/track car.

We stuck the corner weight scales under the car before stripping it apart 913kg, which I didnt think was too shabby considering standard wheels, std battery, AC, chargecooler and additional sound insulation throughout the car. Im expecting it to be under 900kg when done.

Must just be the perspective but the n/s/f wheelarch looks inline with the outer edge of the mirror.
