I have made contact with moroso, Lotus oil pans are made to order and I will be having one made for myself.
if I can get some firm orders I might be able to get the price down
Due to the Yota Engine oil pan only be able to do 1G I have decided to fit a better pan.
And I think a few other people have been thinking about this also.
Please PM me about a firm pre order, I am looking at getting a price for 10 units,
If I dont get 10 I will just get 1 for my self
Its totally different. Accusump is an oil pressure accumulator which is plumbed into the oil cooler pipework and dumps oil in at pressure when the standard pressure pump starts sucking gas.
The moroso is a modified oil pan which is baffled and probably holds more oil and maybe even has trap doors to keep the oil pump pick up pipe subbmerged at all times.
The standard sump/ pick up is only good for 1G according to Toyota’s SAE paper but the car can probably hit peaks of 1.3ish.
Afetr hearing about this mod (via a respected dealer), i decided to enquire with Russell Gibbons at Lotus Motorsport.
Obviously he cannot endorse such a mod, however he felt it did not offer a real solution, & as you’ve said it’s not an alternative to the accusump. Unless your car is subject to many trackdays/year & you have God like driving skills, the accusump my even be a little OTT (albeit a nice to have option).
My own thoughts after talking to Mr Gibbons was that the sump mod is not really worth the effort.
I thought about either the accusump or a baffled sump a while ago, but kinda decided that I didn’t really need one just based on the following observation: there must be hundreds of Exiges and 111Rs heavily tracked all over the country every weekend during the summer season, and Yota engine failures due to oil starvation seem to be extremely rare. Surely we would have heard all about it on this and other forums if this was not the case? Someone will no doubt correct me on this, but the only oil starvation related failures I ever remember hearing about were on 111Rs used exclusively as track cars by one of the circuits (can’t remember which one - possibly Bedford??)
There where oil starvation problems even before the exige came out. People with MR2s who track the car usually baffle the sump. If the paper clearly states that the pickup was designed to work at 1g max, I think tracking the car with sticky tires is asking for trouble. IT is much cheaper to just stick in a baffled sump in there. The moroso hold more oil which will aid with cooling as well. It also has one way doors. Let me find some pics.
I thought the MR2 had the same engine as the Elise S, which is a different unit to the Exige/111R - i.e not just the same basic engine without the VVTLi bits??? Anyway, I go back to my original point that hardly any owners, even those who track their cars very regulary seem to have had oil starvation problems - or at least if they have they are keeping very quiet about it
I recall that the starvation problem only occurs under sustained high speed corners, where a high G load is held for several seconds. That shouldn’t be a major issue at most UK trackday circuits, should it
I had the same problems and it does appear that the worn cams were a hardening issue. I regularly track mine and I believe I am a fair driver. Most of the tracks I visit have high speed turns. My DL1 shows constant ~1.3g with stock A048s.As I prefer my car on the track rather than the workshop, I had the Moroso and Accusump fitted when I had the turbo installed. I have been told by the engineers who have measured dynamic oil pressures on the track that the stock oiling and pan are insufficient at these levels. I haven’t measured anything and put this information here to provide my point of view The addition of pan and Accusump help me be less concerned of engine problems, the hassle all of last year over the cams was enough for me!
P.S. I think all that gravy doesn’t let him sit for very long

Correct but since the 1ZZ-FE had issues with the pre cats disintegrating and clogging the exhaust with the result of a dead engine, we began to swap 2ZZ-GEs in. I think mine is the first one properly documented on the web.
When my Exige K blows I will be looking at a K20A kit and if there is not I will do one at home.
a: Lotus motorsport will slag off any/all 3rd party mods FACT
b: people are doing 1.3g’s
c: if you dont want one dont buy one.
d: if you do I have got the price to 295+ vat if i get 10
( no duty, import tax’s or mega shipping costs to worry about)
I think this is a no brainer if you track your Exige S2 and would be foolish not to take up the offer
ps it was rockingham i think which killed engines.
A delivered price from hangar 111 is/was 408 incl vat and del. However they are out of stock and marianne stated she couldnt be sure the price wouldnt be going up on the next batch.
Hey, I’m not trying to put folks off, I’m just offering an alternative view
a. Lotus didn’t slag it off (to me). It came across as a fair & balanced view. The official line is the factory can’t endorse 3rd party mods due to all that crappy legislation as i’m sure you know.
b. but is this peak sustained for a harmful period (several seconds) e.g banking at rockingham,as you’ve said & not just a quick/high speed corner as at many/all other uk circuits.

c. I won’t
Several seconds not picking up oil or not enough means oil starvation to the cylinder head and the end bearing. The oil pump could also disintegrate in certain cases. If I where tracking my car first thing I would do is baffle the sump or moroso. JMO.
