French Breathalizer Kits

I found the need to carry a breathalyzer yourself in France a bit much but I also found this reference to it on a site that sells the things.

I note that although the law about carrying breathalyzer kits is effective from July 2012 it will not be enforced until Nov 2012.

Bought one of these a few months ago:

Even use it on my Children when they ā€œCome in Lateā€ (well just the once )

Can see that arguement going down very well with a Gendarme/road policeman at the side of a French road this summer

Iā€™ll just refer him to here !! :frowning:

Dead easy fix for these stupid laws in France
DONT GO THEREā€¦

I still canā€™t see what all the objections/uproar are about. Simply donā€™t drink alcohol & drive, in whichever country you happen to be. If (& I appreciate itā€™s a big if) it helps the French reduce their traditional drink driving habits, then surely itā€™s a good thing for everyone who uses their roads - personally I think France is a great place to visit & drive.

Posted twice?! You been drinking Rob?!

I have bought a kit to put in my car to go with the hi viz vests you need in France just because it makes life easier if you are stopped and saves them looking for other excuses to fine you

Yep - gravy!

And me !! But for their stupid laws on GPS Radar warning and this new requirement to carry a Breathalizer kit  I donā€™t drink , why should I have to buy one ??

Surely you donā€™t agree with having different laws for residents, & visitors of the same country? If you donā€™t want to pay a couple of quid for the kit & be legal, donā€™t bother going there - I doubt theyā€™ll miss you

Nothing wrong with Franceā€¦

I totally disagree with the wank French laws they keep inventing , either their part of the EU or their not, Tossers!!

Isnā€™t it about the requirement to carry the kit? What next a bag of sand in case your fuel tank leaks?

Iā€™ve yet to see anyone explain what happens if you are stopped - are the police going to use your kit to breathalyse you and let you go thereafter if negative?

Apparently the froggies are notorious for being drunk drivers , so this new bollox of a law , is to make themselves able to Breathalise themselves before they drive and kill themselves or other frogā€™s , or even visitors to France

It wouldnā€™t be a vote winner to say No Alcohol if you drive to French drivers so near to an election  that would be to fooking easy

I can , & I do  If they do ā€˜half a jobā€™ bit like your post really

Drinking & driving in France has been a cultural ā€œproblemā€ for decades (including Brits who think that getting pi$$ed up & driving. or speeding excessively in France is okay). You canā€™t blame the authorities for wanting to do something about it, or can you? Just what is the bloody problem with spending a couple of quid, when the law is trying hard to educate tens of thousands who persist in acting dangerously? Why is this law bollox, given the background from which it emanated, & is a serious way of making people think about road safety? Podger, I donā€™t know the circumstances of your ā€œseriousā€ road accident in France a few years ago, but I would have thought that improving road safety would be particularly meaningful to you & your family. Unfortunately, the few always spoil it for the majority.
