Floor corrosion

What’s the concensus here? How many are going to get it done or have already got it booked in to be done…I’m not sure I’d trust a main dealer with my car anymore!

Steve

i’m going to get mine done… but you are right enough there is the worry that they will get glue or treatment/solvent all over everything.

For my MOT (failed emmissions) the dealer remover the pax seat so they could fit a different ECU… anyway, they scratched all the inside ally sill didn’t they… not really much can be done with it and its purely the resuld on lack of care when doing the job…

but anyway, i’m still gonna have my floor fixed up.

Rox,

There was what looked like some sort of fluid on the side of the chassis but nothing that wouldnt wipe of very easily with a damp cloth.

The worst bit was the dirt that had come from on / around the original rubber mats and ended up over the tread plates.

Im quite happy with the finished result though.

looks like a proper finished job for once!

Ah, I see your point!

Exactly my point…car goes in to have one thing fixed and comes out with several new scratches, etc, etc

Ok, ok, ! I know we should have done it sooner, but after a problem at donington last week with the clutch we have now got the engine out of the Exige. While the car is off the road the rubber mats have been lifted. The passenger side is not bad with only a few small corrosion spots but the drivers side is much worse Large areas of lumps and bumps and corroded aluminium. So the point is if you have not already done it, get your rubber mats out and get the floor cleaned up. it WILL only get worse if you leave it.Looking at a suitable replacement now as we don’t want to have carpets in a track car. Possibly a piece of thin carbonfibre sheet that can be lifted up regually to dry out and water that has got under it, Will be very hard wearing and will look pritty flash also

Is this problem covered under the Lotus warranty. If it is do I just book into local dealer.
Thanks Steve

Yep,

I was just at my local dealer and they took a look at it and then booked me in to be de-bumped

They had to have the car for 2 days though as the bonding agent that sticks the aluminium screw fasteners to the floor has to have time to set.

Forgot to mention that just before Xmas i got my floor fixed by the dealer… pretty pleased with the result and the comfy new carpets…

However, i was expecting to find some kinda clear, visible, obvious coating on the ali floor panel but its not too obvious to me what does robbo and RL’s and anyone else whos had this done look like

Mine certainly DOESN’T look like new of anything like that but looks OK I guess…

Still a bit messy under the carpets but I guess it could be cleaned upw ith a bit of elbow grease… But at least I have some peace of mind

Rox,

Mines exactly the same.

It looked to me like they washed the floors with some kind of ‘solution’ as there was a bit of water staining up the sides of the chassis rails but that soon cleaned off.

As for some kind of coating. I think its that invisible you cant see it
I think I can remember them saying that once the corrosion/debris is cleaned off the floors are left alone to breath

Mine have definatley not had a coating applied though.

Still pleased I had them done

yeh… mine had like a very fine very slight oily (kinda extra virgin olive oil oily… ) coating when i collected it and it smelt like some kind of ‘solvent’ i liked the smell i have to say… however, it never occured to me at the time to ask exactly what they did… i had some other stuff on my mind at the time.

Hi All - I’m a newbie ‘graduating’ from a S1 111s to Chrome Orange S1 Exige at the weekend. My Elise had really bad corrosion under the rubber mats. It had high mileage (45k) as the previous owner used it every day. I had to have the new floor panels fitted (stuck over the damaged ones not replaced)and the new carpets fitted on top (looks like any new Elise floor with the anodised ally securing screws. If you are in any doubt or you still have the sweaty original rubber mats get it into your nearest dealer now b4 it gets worse!!! JCT600 Leeds did mine and I have no complaints (and I’m a pedantic barstool at the best of times) - hope this helps the doubters. Some words of caution. Dont try and remove the mats to clean it yourself. Lotus need to see the photos to authorise the repair. I did but had the sense (incredible for me) to take some piccies before cleaning it. It was pitted but not perforated. As far as I am aware if your car has the old stuck down mats you will get them replaced foc under warranty - good look.
This could be what is lurking underneath - you have been warned!!

Wow That was bad!
I had the new panels bonded in, but my floor was nowhere near that bad.
